Show Wednesday, October Support for Horsley To the Editor: As we approach the election in November, the voting public should be made aware of the importance in making the right choice for the office of Sheriff of Cabon County. One must understand that this office is a position requiring a high degree of professionalism, dedication and technical aptitude with many hours above and beyond a normal forty hour week. It is not a job where you can go home and forget it. That is impossible. The Sheriff has to be available to respond not only to the seemingly trivial issues, but more importantly, the major problems that affect us all. The Sheriff must be able to deal with an annual budget that by necessity, is higher than in years past, but at the same time, cut costs and keep the department as small as possible without jeopardizing the safety of the countys citizens. Training of deputies to become as professional as their Sheriff and who act in his behalf, is paramount to a well organized Response department. to the victims of crime, service of process without undue delay, the maintenance of a jail with regard to the rights of inmates, are just a few of the many facets of this office. The response to all courts within the State of Utah and the cooperativeness that prevails with other police agencies within the state and throughout the country, must not and cannot be reduced. One can look at the Uniform Crime Statistics published anually by the State of Utah and realize that Carbon County does not place second to any law enforcement agency within Carbon County and those outside its boundries. Mr. Seitzinger and Mr. Markakis, although respectable men, are not in any way qualified to step into a position as Sheriff. This is not meant to undermine these two gentlemen, but only with a sincere hope of bringing to the attention of the public, important reasons why Sheriff Horsley, who is eminently qualified, should be to the Office of Sheriff which he has so successfully administered in the last four years. Sincerely, Utah Peace Officers Association Region F Castleview is disappointing To the Editor: I am writting in reference to an experience we encountered Castleview Hospital. We took turns staying with a patient at the hospital during his stay there, and I am appalled and dismayed at the care he received. recently with He suffered enough with his illness and did not need the added discomfort and suffering he experienced. Please tell me why a nurse must use foul, abusive language in front of patients and their families? Why must there be such a lack of caring and compassion? I see Castleview as a very expensive first-ai- d station where people are charged for things they did not for the use and use. did things they A hospital should be a place where there is prompt, decent, professional medical care, as well as physical and emotional comfort during such a difficult time in a persons life. The pleasant attitude of nurses and staff can truly help patients and so can prompt their familes and gentle care. It is sad, but it seems that the main concern at the hospital is the dollar. I for one, cast my vote in favor of the old Carbon its atmosphere and Hospital and policies. Castleview has caused so much grief for the people of our county and others, and will continue to do so, unless some changes are made. Ruth Dillon over-charge- d Price Hunting needs coverage To the Editor: I am writing in response to the editors note in the Oct. 6 letter by Bevan Bransen. First of all the editors note buck starts out by saying photos (of elk) are not con- sidered newsworthy because hunting expeditions are so common in this area. Since you agree they are common, you must then agree there is a lot of interest there, and therefore more reason to run stories and photos about hunting. High School sports (also common in our area) are played and reported regularly in the paper. The editor also stated a possible exception to the policy might be if a hunter sets a record. Maybe you should only print school sports records too. In response to dead animals do not make the best photosubjects, all I can say is you had better tell Outdoor Sportsman and Field and Stream which are full of dead If you think dead animals. animals are gory, what about car accident pictures printed? I agree with you, live actions and emotions are better portrayed, so why not go with a hunting party for the day to experience and report it, since obviously you do not know what a feat it is when an elk is tagged. It is quite an accomplishment full of time, energy doesnt understand the complishment of mature bull elk. bagging Sun Advocate, Therefore, it was not a surprise that a letter in his behalf was sent to the Sun Advocate by Dr. Dean Hoch of Fair Oaks, Cabf. I feel that the Sun Advocate is not the place for Senator Hatchs friends, who have never lived in our county or state, to attempt a political ploy such as this. In view of the fact that his campaign funds and letters of support come from outside Utah, I would like to ask Does Senator Hatch intend to serve the people of Utah or does he intend to use the people of Utah to serve other interests outside our state? Its a darn good thing the ball bounces good and aint made of wood. It gets even more boring once they get to the other end. They play keepaway for a while and then just drop the ball in the basket. Elk and deer hunting have always been a very important part of this communitys fall activities. And I would like to suggest each fall a special section could be dedicated to hunters. Just because the present writers of the Sun Advocate are unknowledgeable of hunting, the community isnt. I think you should take a look at the communitys interests, since it is evident that the editor has never done any big game hunting and 13, 1982 te beds include mattress, liner, heater, trame, headboard, till kit, conditioner and area delivery.
