CLUB'S FOR ALL YOUTH Murray Boys And Girls Club - Fun Day Ticket Proceeds Go To Youth A chance to win a lot of MURRAY and an opportunity to help a groceries break into the law are the stakes for Fun Day ticket sales For a $1 donation, a ticket may be obtained qualify mg the holder for one of the pre-tee- n grand prizes to be gnen away at the soft-baamphitheater on July 4 at 8 30 p m Winners need not be present to collect prizes The grand prize w ill be $500 in groceries, with other prizes including $250 in groceries, a high rise bicycle and one nights lodging at the Salt Lake Sheraton Smaller prizes w ill be given out throughout the day They include a pass to the 49th Street Galleria and free dinner tickets Bob Dunn, director of the Murray Boys and Girls Club, said tickets are being sold ll by club members They are also available at the club, located at 244 E Vine St door-to-do- Proceeds will be used to help fund a Break into the Law program, which is aimed at lowering the crime rate among pre teens in the Murray area The arrest rate for elementary-agkids rose in Murray last year, Dunn said In 1985, 77 kids were arrested Last year, 110 kids w ere arrested The first step of the program is to idene high-ris- k children who ha e a criminal record or appear headed m that direction Dunn said he will ask Murray School District and Juvenile Court officials to recommend children for the program Extra credit will likely be given to students tify who participate There are in Murray, Dunn said Were trying to mainstream the youth we wprk with so theyll stay m school, get diplomas and have successful lives We care for their w'ell being 200 The overall cost to organize and operate the program is $15,000 Professional people, including social workers, law officers and judges, w ill participate The program, open to both boys and girls, is scheduled to begin in September The club has already raised $2,000 for the project Dunn said an additional $5,000 is expected to be raised through sale of Fun Day prize draw ing tickets The Murray Boys and Girls Club has several additional programs to help Murray youth, including drug counseling, tutoring and health fairs that provide medical and dental care to youth whose families cant afford it are approximately 4,000 ungovernable kids in the valley of which Dunn happily recognizes outside who matches each $100 donation received by the club during the Fun Day ticket drive Badertscher supports the club in memory of her husband w ho w as one of the founding members of the organization To thank the city for its support, the club will be responsible for cleaning up after the horses in this year's Fun Day parade Its our w ay of paying the city back for all it has done, Dunn said Me- v' V $ ' Ar sup- porters including Mrs Ray Badertscher |
