Show 2 Thursday, June THE GREEN SHEET 25, 1987 Kearns Wins Two Of Three KEARNS. Opening American Legion baseball action last Wedneswin over visiting day with a Murray, Kearns crew followed Friloss at West Jorday with a tough dan then won at Granite Monday according to coach Steve Dallin. Tomorrow (Friday) Kearns will be at Tooele then hosts Boise, Idaho in a double header Sunday at 4 and 6 p.m. On Monday Kearns will be at Brighton then next Wednesday visits Hillcrest. On July Kearns travels to the Pocatello Tournament for five games. All regular Legion games are at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Kearns 16-- 5 5-- 2 7-- Kearns 7, Granger Both team netted a run in the second, Kearns coming home on a wild pitch after Darren Bills, Mike Peterson and Brady Clark singled. Granger, in the bottom half of the inning, loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a Tyler Wilder single then a walk forced in the run. Kearns added four runs in the fifth as John Brown homered, Glen tripled, Bills singled and Granger turned two errors. Granger added two runs in the inning, Jonas Hamblin singling in Scott Dalton, whod doubled, and Rich Fratto, whod walked. Kearns notched a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, Todd Funderburk singling in the first and Brown sacrificing in the second. Granger got close in the bottom of the seventh with three runs, Kelly Peterson ripping a two-ruhomer and Steve Embley adding an rbi single. Granger had the bases loaded with two out, but Kearns pitcher Troy Staley closed the door with a strikeout. Kearns finished with 10 hits and made one error, while Granger had eight hits and two misques. Du-nyo- n BY A TOE . . . Granites GRANITE Legion baseball season got off to an auspicious start last Wednesday, when they travelled to Bingham and in a game led the Miners six after suspended innings of play. The game will be finished at Bingham on July 31st at 5 p.m. Granite then met Taylorsville and lost 1J 2 on Friday and w'ere defeated by Alta on the home field on Monday by The Farmers played Holladay on Wednesday after press time and will not play on Friday but will travel to Cottonwood for a Monday game and will then play in the Firecracker tournanon darting on Wednesday. see se, e story In the season opener at Bingham, the F armers jumped off to a five run first inning only to see the Miners come back in their half w'ith six. G ramte scored two more in the third to tie the game at seven and they then went ahead with four in the fourth and three more in the sixth. With (.ramte leading Bingham struck back for three in the bottom of the sixth to set up the completion. Jason Done went the distance for the Farmers with Hansen, Candiotti, and Hansen pitching for Bingham. Page and Roberts both had triples for the Bingham team while Paul Gines, Brian Bingham, and Mark Casper all had two base hits for Granite. Gines and Done were both at 3x5 with Casper being 2x3 and Bingham 2x4 for coach Ewings Granite team. 14-1- 1 Tavlorsville The game Granite Friday 2 against Taylorsville saw the Granite team hold a lead after two but Taylorsville scored three in the third, five in the fourth and three more in the fifth to close the game out after five innings. Mark Tolbert went four for the winners with Wood coming in in the fifth while Eric Richards and Brian Bingham hurled for the losers. Tolbert and Evans had doubles for 14-1- 2-- 1 ) ( 12, while Quinn, Taylorsville, Wilberger, Evans, and Wooley had triples for the winners with Tony Moulton having a three base hit for the losers. 14-- Alta one-innin- g 14, Granite 1 1 Monday's game against Alta saw the Alta team score nine runs in a big second inning and although Granite kept coming back they could never overcome the big deficit. Bingham started for Granite with Casper coming on to hurl three innings and Kyle Nielsen finished. Alta used five pitchers with Wilson starting to be followed by Eldridge, Keller, Alvey and Hymas coming on in the seventh to secure the win. Hymas and Wilson both had doubles for Alta with Eldredge having a triple and Wartman an inside the park home run. Davis had a double for Granite with Casper having a West Jordan 5. The Colts scored their third run in the second when Chad Fletcher beat out a bunt and scored with two out on Stephan Satos double down the line.
