There will be some real tugs to the heartstrings when Father Louis Fischer leaves his 4.000 parishioners here at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church next month to move to California. He will be officially relieved as pastor of the church on July 13 and has been given authorization to work on a part-tim- e baSis in the Catholic Diocese of San Diego. Ill be working in different parishes on weekends helping with services and doing some part-tim- e chaplainship. I also want to work as a teacher and do some writing, he said. Affectionately known in his parish The Big Fish as Father Lou, and Papa Lou, he also has gained many friends outside of his church. He has been active in ecumenical endeavors with representatives of other religions. During his seven years at St. Francis Xavier, he has made many memories. But without a doubt, the most memorable event was the colliding of two planes over the church property on Jan. 15 of this year. He bereaved. It was a hub for in- vestigators and the news media. Four or five hundred lepers would line up with sacks for us to fill. With these ingredients the lepers would make thick pancakes to eat. During that same year he spent four months in Rome and two months in the Holy Land. He sat in an Indian Ashram (house of prayer) with sort of an old Benedictine Monk Christian Guru"), spent time in Kenya with some missionary priests and went on an archeological tour of Egypt and Jordan. After this eventful time he chose to come back to Salt Lake to serve. He admits it has When I first surmised what the situation was I got oil and was going to anoint the bodies, recalled Father Fischer, but when I saw so disintegrated, I just blessed them and prayed over them the best I could.
