The day begins early, before sunrise, and lasts until the final fireworks display explodes in the sky above Murray park. For the early risers, a breakfast will be served between 6:30 and 9 a.m. in the bowery south of the Murray park swimming pool. It will cost $3 for adults, $2.50 for children. The Murray Lions club is sponsoring the breakfast. State Rep. Jack DeMann will be the featured sunrise service speaker. The 7 a.m. service will be conducted at the flag pole north of the swimming pool. DeMann will speak on the bicentennial of the U. S. Constitution. What is being billed as the biggest ever parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Fashion Place Mall. It will work its way up State Street, turn east on Vine, then proceed through the park and disband at the County Fairgrounds. The parade will feature horses, floats, bands, marching groups, city officials and royalty. L. Clark Cushing, who served for 16 years on the Murray City Commission, will be the grand marshal. He will ride in an authentic stage coach. The concession stands will open at 11 a.m. and continue in operation through most of the day. At 11:30 a.m., the singing group Encore will begin the daytime entertainment at the softball amphitheater. Following Encore will be Skvdivers at 12:30 p.m., Kids Stuff at 12:45, martial arts at 1:30. Mel Hall's Sextet and "The Great Dane" at 2:15, Medra Gregson's Jazz and Clogging Group at 3:15 and the International Junior Folk Dancers at 4 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 2:05 p.m. to MURRAY. Fun Day has traditionally meant certain things and were not deviating from those tried and true traditions this year, said John Mohlman, Fun Day chairman. The 1987 Murray Fun Day celebration may not bring anything new, but it is going to be bigger and better, with an emphasis on high quality entertainment, Mohlman said. If people don't come for anthing other the entertainment, they'll be well rewarded, he added. All games will be played on the grassy area near the booths. The games include the money scramble at noon, the water balloon toss at 12:45 p.m., the sack races and relays at 1:30 at 3 p.m. p.m. and the A popular feature of the celebration is the police bicycle auction in the county judging pavilion at 5 p.m. Mohlman insists the highlight of the day First will be the evening entertainment. Class groups, is how he decribes both Cambridge, which will perform between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., and the Jay Welch tug-of-w- Chorale, which will perform between 8:45 and 9:45 p.m. In between, with Mayor LaVar McMillan serving as master of ceremonies, Cushing will be honored and parade winners will be announced. The grand prize drawings will take place at 8:30p.m. When the last rays of sunlight are gone from the sky, the fireworks display will begin. They will be seen above the hill near the county tennis courts. Six months of planning went into the organization of this years Fun Day.
