Many of us think the first day of elementary school is the most traumatic for kids, but the first day of junior high schol can bring problems too, says Cherie Cotton, teacher at Riverview junior high and an MEA executive board member. Consider the brand new seventh-grade- r on the opening day of school, she said. This kid has been in classes six hours a day with a single teacher for the past seven years of school and kindergarten. The student really knew that teacher. He or she knew most of the other students in the school. But all of a sudden, here is this 12 or in a school where most of the other kids are strangers, the school is bigger and its difficult to find classes, and besides that, there are now seven teachers instead of 266-113- 266-126- Murray Public Library Donna Slusher Head Librarian Date of Publication August 16, 1984 Murray Eagle PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE TO CREDITORS ANGELO LAVEDER aka ANGELO LAVEDORaka Estate of ANCHANGELO LAVEDER aka ARCANGELO LAVEDER, Deceased Probate just one. Kay Roberts, a teacher at View-moelementary, said new elementary students have special problems of their own. She suggested that parents take these steps to help them: Help your child learn his or her full name, address and telephone number. Take your child to the school, showing the route which will be taken to school, stressing safety precautions. Have your childs immunization record, preschool medical examination, registration papers and birth certificate. Talk about school to your children in a positive manner. Share details about what school will be ( 4 nt like. Make sure the child is registered for kindergarten screening Aug. 23 and 24 at the individual Murray schools. Give children responsibilities at home that are appropriate to his or her age level. This will carry over to the classroom. Be positive with children about academic performance, stressing the importance of doing their best in Appeal Process Available For Taxation Errors SALT LAKE. For those who feel their property tax valuation notice is in error, there is a course of appeal. Taxpayers may address an error or omission in their property valuation by filing an appeal with the County Board of Equalization, according to Deputy County Auditor David Vanier. For example, if a taxpayer recently purchased a home for $80,000, and the notice indicates a market value of $90,000, that would be a basis for an appeal, Vanier said. Vanier stressed that appeals can be based only on the value of the property, not the amount of the tax. Most property owners will note that the assessed value and market value have increased from 1983, he said. The increases are the result of actions by the State Supreme Court and the State Legislature and, in and of themselves, are not a basis for appeal. The market value shown on the notice the value of the property as of Jan. 1, 1984 - is the value which must be addressed in an appeal. Appeal forms are available in y Room 306 of the Building and must be filed between Aug. 23 and Sept. 5. On the day the appeal is filed, a property owner is given an opportunity for a hearing. Following that, the appeal is referred to the County Assessor, who makes a recommendation. All information is then reveiwed by a hearing officer, who makes a final recommendation to the Board of Equalization. Formal written notice of the decision will be mailed to the petitioner.
