Show mpu Page 9 B Lakeside Review Thursday, October 23, 1980 Ai 3 Different Countries Exchange Students Hosted By JOY WATANABE School Correspondent ROY This year Roy High School is host school to three foreign exchange students, each from a different country. Lorna Hernandez, Jari Autti, and Graham are all participants in the American Field Service program. They will be studying here for one year before returning to their own countries. A native of Chile, Lorna and her family moved when she was 10 to Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. After finishing her stay here, Lorna, who is 17, plans to continue her education at the University of Chile as her older brother Sergio is now doing. She also has a younger sister, Carmen Gloria, who Mac-farla- SPARRING for center position for a photograph. Jari came from Finland to ' good-natured- District Electrician Receives Award award for the Outstanding Employee of the Year has been received by an electrician in the Weber School District maintenance department. An Morrill Lofgreen, a employee in the Weber 34-ye-ar District, received the award in Salt Lake on Oct. 10. The award is presented annually by the Utah State Employees Association. Lofgreen began his employment in 1946 and was responsible for electrical, plumbing and boiler work in the Weber School District. He was eligible for retirement in 1977 but chose to stay on in the district because of his love for the work. He currently holds the title of electrical specialist and is responsible for all electrical work in the districts 34 schools. During his lifetime Lofgreen has been an avid scouter and holds such outstanding honors as Wood Badge and Silver Beaver. He has attended four national Scout Jamborees and one world Scout Jamboree. Winners Named ROY Winners of Read Week have been Sand Ridge Junior High School. Friday at School ROY The Sand Ridge Junior High School PTSA will sponsor a fundraising carnival Friday at the school. The event begins at 5 p.m. and will conclude at 8 p.m. A cake walk and booths will provide prizes. Proceeds will be used for PTSA programs and to aid educational projects. the United States, Jari plans to do a lot of traveling. He will be going to the Grand Canyon, Alaska, Oregon, California, and possibly Florida. Graham MacFarlane hopes to do some traveling while he is here too. He especially wants to go to Disneyland, and he will also be going to South Dakota. Graham is from Johannesburg, South Africa, where he has already graduated from King While in Edward VII High School. He will enter the armed forces for two years when he returns to Johannesburg. He has two brothers, Douglas who is 14 and Brent who is 11, and also a younger sister Liesel who is 12. According to Graham, the major difference between Roy High and King Edward is the formality. is 13 years old. At King Edward, teachers are much stricter, there said Roy High is very different from La Dolorosa. In Finland, students graduate when they are 19. Jari said that school is much easier here. Students at Muhosken Lukio are required to take 13 classes. But like Roy High, it is a coed school and the teachers are much the same. According to Jari, there is more school spirit at Roy High, and he attributes this to the fact that we have athletic teams. Jari enjoys sports, especially snow skiing, ice TEMPLE WEST hockey, soccer, and tennis when it comes to parCONSTRUCTION ticipation, but he also likes to watch all sports. Photography is his favorite class.
