| Show ae ELECTRIC LIEC T R I 1 C W WELLS jau L L S I 1 IN N B BRIGHAM R I 1 G H A M I 1 from the beginning of brigham city the settlers looked forward with trepidation lest there should be a shortage of irrigating waters hundreds of acres of choicest land lay un cel aimed because it was feared that the streams could not be depended depend cil on tor for more extended service but in the last few years these fears fear havo have all been dispelled by the tapping of underground streams and reservoirs and pumping the waters to the lie surface by electric power there to do yeoman service in sustaining rich vegetable and fruit life it was not until 1903 that these great sources of underground wealth were discovered to mr J 11 olsen belongs tile the honor of establishing the first electric well in brigham from that date 1903 until the present sir tr olsen has had bad at his control a splendid stream of ice cold water which yields up at least gallons per minute during the twenty four hours per day he desired to secure this he has only to start his 5 horsepower motor which gets its initial current from the brigham city electric light and power company his success was immediately repeated by mr carl isaacson and since since that time no less than twenty progressive gres sive horticulturists have met with similar success three or four others have hare met with partial success and are arc confident that with will a little care and pains they can meet with similar success tile the opinion is becoming current that a splendid electric well flowing from to gallons of water per minute is feasible iu in most any locality in brigham Brig liam of those who own and operate splendid electric wells at the present time in the city the following lit list may be cited james 1 I olsen carl isaacson the Knud sons IT 11 C boden company valentine orchard company alfred A if red N olsen ap 4 1 aw T ity electric well and reservoir on andrew jensens hensens Jen sens farm the water flows about gallons per minute in the reservoir mr air jensen keeps trout and bass for table use rupert olsen andrew jensen nels jensen james Gin drupp IV V 0 knudson A IL II snow two wells james christensen the beeman well nels hansen ole olson J IV duffin J D call the stohl anderson well james holman olman II james jensen the wells are all similar in construction st vary in depth from 35 to 80 feet and yield steady stead streams varying from 75 to gallons per minute usually they have 10 horsepower electric motor attachments though the aver average acre power used at present is only four or five and the wells are operated about eight or ten hours per day most of them seem inexhaustible as several full days twenty four hours continuous operation tails falls to deplete the supply the owners irrigate from five to forty acres each according to their needs ani and practically all are of opinion that their wells are capable of irrigating at least two or three times as much land as they are now irrigating the valentine well is generally regarded as a s one of the best in the city it was constructed in 1905 lias has a 25 horsepower motor uses about 12 horsepower raises the water 65 feet and flows better than gallons per minute they irrigate at present about forty acres of orchard and and vegetable ground thus it may readily be seen what an immense source of wealth the wells are to brigham and what a marvelous mar relous future awaits us when we get hundreds hund redi of them within and about our borders as there is every reason reason to believe we shall have within a very few years 0 marvelous wonderful and great is brigham and we yet begun to dream of the hie great future that awaits herl 0 my 0 my IT X 17 N Q I 1 i maw b the valentine electric well discharging over gallons per minute one ot of the best wells in the city and it is this water the experiments in irrigation are being conducted with by the agricultural college experiment station |
