of box elder county lit in march 1851 mrs rs wells well and her ter husband lyman D wells in connection with jonathan S wells samuel madiam wife and two children john M N mccreary cCreary NI wife and child moved up from O ogden oden I 1 den to lo find a home in box elder county they settled on oil willow creek and immediately began the struggle which is terminating so gloriously in making box elder one of the most fruitful and desirable in all the world mrs wells was born in oakland oakland county michigan in 1831 to elijah and bethiah fordham it was wa s lier ter father it will mill be remembered who built the wooden oxen in the nauvoo templo temple and who abbo is associated with the events of early mormon history lie ire was quite closely associated with the lie prophet joseph city was laid out in 1851 5 the family moved out into the southwestern part of the city where mr mathas father thomas mathias built the first lo 10 log house constructed outside the fort on this block mr mathias has since lived and his comfortable home tome surroundings toda today y preach louder than words the blessedness of building a home and staying with it to spend a half century or more on a little spot of ground called home is to appreciate the full significance of the word for sacred memories attach to every shrub and tree and inch of soil surrounding mr mathias Mat bias home tome is a only kind of 0 value in genuine pioneer ing work three times limes lie he crossed the plains for immigrants and for many years lie was an active member of the territorial militia of minute men a met member indeed during the entire life of the organization ile he has been also during liis his entire life a consistent anti and devoted latter day saint and lias has filled many positions of trust both in civil wild and ecclesiastical affairs ile he lias has IL a bright native active mind and is chock full of most i interesting lite resting C reminiscences of brighams Brig hams early days As lie he is now dow but lit 67 years of age and in splendid health we have every reason to believe eliat th it lie he will yet spend many ciany fruitful years and amon among other filter 0 good works
