The program teaches high performance living and will be presented by Positive Air, a Denver, Colo., group comprised of world-clas- s athletes committed to youth. building world-clas- s The conference is coordinated by Liz Fergusen, prevention specialist at Four Corners Mental Health in Price, who would like to see the event become an annual presentation for area kids. Positive Air presents a program to build and to prevent abuse by motivating studrug dents to live a high performance life." Benefits of the program are accomplished through action- - o ?v self-estee- classroom workshops, an entertaining but informative parent program and a teacher training. high-performan- Positive Air has a proven, effective approach to motivating young people toward posi- tive actions, and has presented its program to over 600 schools throughout Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico. The group has also presented invitational performances at the Utah Federation for Drug Free Youth, the Colorado State Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Prevention Conference and the Wyoming DARE Officer Convention. The program begins with an exciting assembly presented by two team members using an acrobatic exhibition combined with dramatization. A follow-u- p program in the class is used to capitalize on the excitement and reinforce the messages presented earlier. An entertaining evening program for parents provides the impetus for increased involvement as well as tools to reinforce the message presented to their children. The objective of the assembly is to build by giving youngsters a new perspective on themselves and their relationship with school. High school and junior high school assemblies are 45 minutes and focus on winning the game of life through positive lifestyle choices. The classroom follow-u- p (workshop) provides an opportunity for students to ask questions and for the team to personalize the message. The avoidance of drugs is dealt with, but the main emphasis is on living a high perforself-estee- mance life. be Secondary workshops can adjusted from 30 to 60 minutes; grades three through six last 30 minutes; and kindergarten through second grade workshops are 15 minutes long. At the end of the conference, which lasts a school day in most of the countys secondary schools, a optional teacher inservice is scheduled. Teachers are given a practical experience of how attitude, e and affect their performance as well as some ideas on how to incorporate the information into their classrooms. self-estee- m self-imag- The evening program will be presented at East Carbon High School on Feb. 9, and at Carbon High School on Feb. 11.
