norton has been postponed till bomor tomorrow mrs norton is said to be very nervous today and clings still closer to moore and most fervently avers she will not be separated from him moore and mrs norton were not informed till this morning and it was known to no one but the officers that a complaint was filed by county attorney cartis late last night before justice searle against them charging a violat violation ion of the state law under section 12 in relation to marriages which makes it a misdemeanor lor for an unmarried couple to live together as man and wife and fixes the penalty at not less leas than nor more than 1009 1000 or not less than thirty days nor mure more than three months imprisonment had they been released today they would have been immediately arrested on the above charge it is not likely the warrant will be served till they are released 1 I dwalt dont have much faith in these habeas corpus proceedings said moore this morning then you will probably have to go back with the officers well it looks that way but my may god I 1 hate bate to return to ta st louis what is your objection well I 1 had made up my mind I 1 would never set my foot in st louis again I 1 do not hate to go back because I 1 have to answer the charge of grand larceny john W norton cannot can not bring one iota of proof against me but it to Is going back to st louis that I 1 dread lor atto attorney ney for moore held a long consul consultation this afternoon in laughlina Laugh lins rooms capt johnson said at the close of the consultation sul tation negotiations are in p ogress between us which may lead to a settlement of the affair the condition on en which judge laughlin proposes to settle it without going into the courts is that moore shall leave the country and that mrs norton shall return to st louis and give up the papers she has in her possession this proposition ro position has been made by norton gut but neither moore nor mrs norton will agree to it but still I many hundreds of people are in the river some were recovered but the stench was so great that further search was abandoned PITTSBURG july 11 the latest estimate of the damage puts the total loss at over one million dollars wheeling reports the damage in the vicinity of gratton grafton W V a friot less than and about fairmount at about as much more the loss at brownsville Browns ville pa is reported to be over and at pow leburg W va in this neighborhood it will exceed and it is not exaggerating to say that with the above as a fair estimate the total will exceed 1000 as the flooded district covers an area of fully miles at Mclee sport all the mills are closed down and hundreds are homeless and destitute the chartiers natural gas main crossing the river at that point was broken during the night and the immense pressure of gas forced into the air mr knight the tae watchman of the pittsburg mc keesports Kee sport and railroad crossed the trestle at saltsburg a short time after and his lantern ignited the gas causing a tremendous explosion knight was fatally burned and the bridge caught fire but the flames were extinguished before it was destroyed traffic has almost been suspended on the pittsburg Vir virginia gisis charleston road no trains gins are running south of peters creek nineteen miles from here A wheeling dispatch says the freshet was the greatest ever known land between that point and clarksburg Clarks burg on the west and as far at least as crafton in the valley has been swept away the water is now I 1 falling alli ng at the headwaters and the worst twenty three feet and at 6 it had fallen to twenty two feet the current Is still running at the rate of nine miles an hour but bat the river is comparatively clear of ef debris everything V having run out A A later dispatch from wheeling says that from reports received f from rom the flooded district of west virginia it looks as it if the money less by mondays rain would reach nearly two million dollars at least three lives have been lost the water is now falli falling ag rapidly at points and it is becoming possible to get detailed reports from the small towns and villages in the mountains neighboring BORING FLOODS WHEELING W va july 11 the rise in valley rive eiver at ac grafton Ur afton yesterday from the rains of the past two days was unprecedented and to the lumber interests in ia this section the damage is disastrous thousands of logs were swept away booms destroyed and mills near the river badly damaged several buildings were washed down the river fiver and crushed to atoms when they struck the strong iron railroad bridge here the flood so far is more disastrous ti to grafton than the fire of a year ago and the loss to the me town and section will not dot fall short of the damage at 9 will reach around parkersburg the railroads have been badly washed out oat in all directions farms are flooded and hundreds of acres of growing crops and harvested grain are deluged millions of feet of timber are a float afloat in me swift current going to destruction at clarksburg Clarks burg twenty houses were carried away and an innumerable amount of property ruined last night dight was a night ot terror the water atef reached the highest stage at 1 and by those who remember the flood of 1852 it is conceded that it entirely surpasses it toe tae loss to the town and county cant even be estimated but it is heavy ILEX alexandria ANDRIA va july 12 A terrible accident occurred on the tae virginia midland railroad early this morning the through southern train that left here at 1125 last flight went through a trestle between orange county chanty house and barboursville a distance of 15 feet killing live five persons outright and wounding twenty five the trestle was known to be weak and a railroad company was engaged in filling it in the train was moving at a speed of six miles while crossing crossin g the trestle under the regular order the vh engine had passed safely over most of the trestle when the smoker mail baggage and egress cars went down with a great crash dragging down the engine and tender and two passenger coaches the engine went down pilot end foremost tributaries tributa ries for the last sixty hours are again filling falling into their natural channels they leave in their track scenes of desolation and ruin that never had their counterpart in the same localities from pittsburg to the mountain fastnesses fast nesses of randolph county west virginia towns have been iava ravaged ged manufactories manu factories in undated boats sunk houses and lumber floated off fields with their wheat in shock and growing crops devastated families driven to the hi hills 18 tor for shelter and in many instances t the e accumulations of years of toil and self denial have been lost in an hour the losses entailed by the flood will not it is ascertained today be short of a large proportion of which falls with crushing effect upon the people of the thriving counties of monongahela marion taylor harrison lewis barbour upshur and randolph in west virginia inpeng sylvania sylva uia the losses are la in the counties ot of allegheny washington westmoreland fayette and green the heaviest is in allegheny alleghany Alleg hany washington and fayette these losses fall most heavily upon the owners of coal property railroad companies and farmers notwithstanding the suddenness of the coming of the yaster and the area of destruction the she losses of the flats barges and small river craft have been comparatively small and nearly all the boat owners are congratulating themselves on their good fortune in pittsburg proper much of the loss has fallen upon the owners of shanty boats and boat houses but these are for the most part insignificant the owners of mill property will lose largely and have to undergone undergo no end of inconvenience on account of the invasion of the mills by the water putting out fires and rusting and almost ruining the valuable machinery little lumber or other movable property has been carried away from this city but from points above millions of feet of et valuable timber and lumber have come down and been carried off into the ohio a total less to the owners subsidence PITTSBURG july 12 there was no BO rain in any part of the flooded district yesterday and by this evening all traces of the flood
