After the conversation, "I overheard hint in another room while 1 was walking out. The other doctor says. 'Well, he has only three months to live," Lloyd said. He was 15, and had no parents, and no future. "1 didn't know who to turn to. 1 started to do a lot of crazy things." lie was no longer in school. He drank heavily and had frequent false alarms that the end had come. He had been treated in Salt Lake City with chemotherapy and radiation, but stopped the treatments because he had only three months to "They did an exploratory (operation) and they found a tumor. It was wrapped around seven feet of intestine. And after the operation the doctors would not tell me what was w rong." The doctors told his family Lloyd lives with a brother and sister-in-laMr. and Mrs. Rick Roberts and he sensed something was wrong. But he couldn't find out what from them. Lloyd eventually went to his doctor and demanded to know the truth. I live. 1 decided this ain't me, 1 going to let it get me down. So one night 1 asked God, if it was his will to take me, but if it wasn't, to "Then ain't have the nightmare end." He moved to Park City and got a .1 UTAH STATE PRISON three ; CRASHERSIN PERSON, FRIDAY 10 A.M. DOOR cured, Dr. Eyre said. Some of the doctors at t!tiversity Hospital called it a miracle, Lloyd said. "My family thought it was a miracle too. They didn't know, its the only thing it could be." This was two years from the time he had discovered he had three months to live. "SO I started thinking more and more seriously about the Army." Like many young men, he felt that the service could train him for a career. The Army turned him down. lie appealed, and was rejected again. "They said they've been stung before," Lloyd said. Presumably, the Army was afraid it would spend thousands of dollars on training only to have Lloyd die on them. "One officer I talked to said the law was going to be changed and might to be changed," he said. "I don't think it's fair to me." The Army wouldn't even consider his offer of signing a waiver, he said. This document would have guaranteed that if the cancer reappeared, the Army wouldn't have to pay the medical expenses. He lived in Park City for seven months, where a close friend gave him moral support and fought it with him every step of the way. "I believed in myself and I believed in God, and that's all it took." A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, he had always prayed for a miracle. Month after mouth he stayed alive, and the symptoms began to fade. He became convinced that the cancer had left him. By now he was 17 years old, with no real schooling and no chance of a good job. Employers wouldn't hire anyone who could die a few weeks after going through an expensive training program. He decided to join the Army, but the Army wouldn't take him either. Lloyd decided to find out if the cancer really was gone. He went back to University Hospital for tests. and was there for a week. "All the tests turned up as negative but one. They seen two masses of lymph nodules, but they couldn't tell if it was cancer or not." lie submitted to a serious operation; to see if the cancer was still present. "They took out the lymph nodules, they biopsied (removed cells for examination) my liver and they took out my spleen and they biopsied that. "And they found no trace of cancer," Lloyd said. "Nothing, all .; :ii.,. , How do you resume a normal hie after returning fror the dead? More and more people are having to face situations like the one the Biblical Lazarus faced after being brought back from the dead. Mike Lloyd, who turns 18 this month, is one of those who faced the terrifying specter of death getting closer each day. Now he's fighting to prove he's really going to live. Two years ago Lloyd, 6671 Georgia Dr., West Jordan, was diagnosed as having terminal cancer. He had lyitiplioina; there was a tumor in his small intestine. "In July of '73 I came down with abdominal pains. I started to throw up. We went to the University Hospital that night and they didn't know what was going on.
