Thanks and congratulations go to all the players on their good sportsmanship that they displayed during their games. The coaches really appreciated each and every player. two-poi- Brigham 70C No. 2 Ends with 38-- 0 win Brigham City No. 2 finished up the season with their best game of the year in a 38-- vicLogan. tory over This game against Logan was a total team effort, as five players for BC scored touchdowns. Brighams offense rolled up a season high 309 total yards compared to 44 for Logan. For eight and nine year old boys playing their first year of organized football, it was truly a great first year. The team, consisting of Kirk Bassett, Kim Braegger, Zach Beecher, Kendel Bennett, Tim Brown, John Collins, Tim Cosgrove, Willie Curtis, David Daley, Steven Ferry, Shane Garcia, Randy Hadfield, Steve Hendrix, Fernando Hernandez, Danny Jensen, Steven Jeppsen, Troy Liljenquist, Kevin Limb, David Markham, Shane Marlow, Rubin Martinez, Steve Olsen, Dennis Phillips, Brian Randall, Bryan Reeves, William Sandoval, Kyle Vavricka, Shane Whitlock, Marshall, and Vincent Nickerson all took a great interest in playing football, were well coached, and every marked imboy showed the end of the at provement year. Brigham No. 2 finished the year with six wins against one loss, coming in the third game of the year. That was to Ogden and the No. 1 by a score of boys biggest wish was to play this team one more time. We think the outcome would 0 once-beate- n 18-1- be much different, but nothing can take away the fact that this is one of the finest teams Brigham City has seen in quite some time. Brigham City 70Bs Top Pleasant View The Brigham City 70B team triumphed over Pleasant View at Weber High to come out on top in the Northern division. Brighams first game with Pleasant View ground to a halt but Saturday the tough Brigham team left no doubts as to who were the champs. Brigham's offensive line of Brad Williams, Kyle Smith, Kent Peterson, Jimmy Marshall, Jon Kirchoff, Shorland Juber, Brian Jibson, Boyd 6-- 6 Coddington, Daniel Coates, Kenny Christofferson, Russell Case, Mark Bailey and Richard Andrus played a tough game clashing head to head against a strong Pleasant View defense allowing Brigham backs Robbie Carver, Kort Lyons, Dome Hall, Brett Goldsberry, Brett Adams and Tom Olsen to grind out 170 yards rushing. Robbie Carver made a fabulous run to give him 58 yards in the game and Kort Lyons scampered a total of 51 yards including one great 31 yard run. End Brad Williams made a tremendous play coming up with a key block. The touchdown was made in the first half by Kort Lyons behind great blocking by Jimmy Marshall, Boyd Coddington and Kenny Christofferson. Brichams awesome defensive unit Mike Begay, Tyler Bockmeyer, Shane Bradford, Robbie Carver, Tyler Dunn, Dome Hall, Russell Case, Brett Goldsberry, Tim Larsen, Bobby Newman, David Peterson, Tony Taylor, Lance Velasquez and Jeff Williams were the real heros of the game holding Pleasant View to a minus two yeards rushing. Unable to move their ground game Pleasant View went to the air in the second half despite the strong wind and were intercepted three times. Bobby Newman, Dome Hall and Brett Goldsberry all held onto View passes and Tim Larsen and Russell Case were each credited with a quarterback sack. City No. 2 team. The first score came when on a third play offensive the week are back Munson picked off a No. Pleasant Brigham 70B players of Kort Lyons and end Brad Williams and defensive players of the week were Russell Case and Brett Goldsberry. Congratulations to 70B Northern division champs and head coach Ray Marshall and assistants Stan Williams, Burke Larsen, Rex Adams, Paul Tumblom, Russ Walton and Cal Andrus. The team will meet again Oct. 22 at the Community center for their banquet. Brigham City 70A No. 2 Suffers Loss Again Brigham City No. 2 went down in defeat to Ogden No. 1 by a score of 14-The game was a see-sabattle with neither team being able to score until late in the first half. A pass interception by Ogden combined with a 35 yard run back for a touchdown which resulted in the first score of the game. In the fourth quarter Ogden managed to get good field position and ran in for a TD from the Brigham City 20 yard line. The Brigham City offense was unable to mount a good offensive drive against the strong Ogden defense and did not threaten at anytime during the game. Outstanding defensive players for Brigham City were John Wolf, John David Parsons, Gary Wood and Shannon Whitehead. David Russell, Justin Dolling and Marvin Vale turned in good performances for the offensive unit. We want to thank all the coaches and team for their determination and efforts during the season. A good time was had by the team and they appreciate all the help given by the coaches. scrimmage early from Pat cornerback pass 2 and returned it 25 yards behind a couple of key blocks for the TD. The extra point try was good by Kelly Shiffler behind the right side blocking of Jon Duran, Steven Woodruff and Jim Davis. Brigham City No. 1 then held No. 2 for no gain in the next series on stops by Cory Tom Woodruff, Menlove, Williams and Matt Velasquez. The second score in the game series came after a seven-plawhen super back Shiffler scored from 26 yards out after power blocking by John Cox and Robert McGee opened the hole. The extra point try was good on an end sweep by John Cox. Tod Thompson made a key block on the play. End of the season thank yous go out to Charles Vogt for a super coaching job with the offensive line and Jay Poelman manager and statistician. Minor injuries and illness eliminated much of the punch of the 85A No. 2 team. Todd Morrison was unable to enter the game at his starting tailback position because of a minor injury and starting tackle Louie Hicks missed the game because of illness. Then early in the first period quarterback John Mason was injured slightly and was unable to play for the remainder of the y game. Although Tommy Evanoff at tailback, Bruce Simmons at tackle and Shane Whitehead at quarterback performed extremely well the timing was disrupted for most of the first half. In the second half blocking by Matt Mozingo, crisp Nate Chappel, Greg Jeppesen, Boyd Davis, and Darin Wight opened good holes for running backs Danny Parkinson, Tommy Evanoff and Brian Windley. The result was good yardage Brigham City 85A No. 1 gained but the tough 85A No. 1 Downs Hometown Foes defense stopped the drives short The Brigham City 85A No. 1 of the goal. season The missing starting players capped a successful with a win 20-- 0 over their bothered the defense in the first hometown rivals the Brigham half but in the second half the Players of the week at area high schools hard tackles of Ricky Huot, Dennis Nelson, Chad Herbert and James Owen began stopthe opposition ball ping carriers Performing 100 As The Brigham 100A team wrought havoc on a previously undefeated Logan No. 2 team on Watkins field Saturday. This wm makes Brigham and Logan No. 2 the Northern division 100A The Brigham gridders dominated Logan throughout the game, coming up with four touchdowns but having two called back in the penalty-ridde- n game, making the final tally Both teams were plagued with fumbles during the first half Brigham converted on a Logan mistake when Doug Albright recovered a fumble on the six and Kirk Baty fought through for the TD, The point after was short. 12-- Brigham's defense pushed Logan back 10 yards in one series when Kipp Baty, Doug and Joel Huff Allbright smeared the quarterback twice and Kirk Baty knocked down a pass. Quarterback Doug Albright hit Kirk Baty for a 70 yard pass play that included some very tricky footwork from Baty, but the TD was called back due to a penalty downfield. Some great runs were made by Tony Smith and Kipp Baty to . rated high Healthy Rainfall The long dry summer was baptised with a healthy rainfall the past week and dusty roads in the high country are now muddy bogs, according to Fricke. Good weather between now and Saturday will do alot to improve access, he said. The biggest man on the Bear River team was the concensus selection of coaches for player of the week honors. 240 pound John Barrera, defensive tackle, was cited for his 6-- 3, outstanding play against Judge effort. Memorial in a losing Barrera singlehandedly stopped 16-1- 2 the Bulldog running game time and again, ending up with seven tackles, two assists and one quarterback sack. A review of game films showed John made several key tackles against Judge. He showed a lot of desire and hustle in the game, said coach Don Petersen. John is a senior at Bear River where he hopes to wrestle at heavyweight this winter. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guadlupe Barrera of Bothwell. Like other player of the week honorees, John will receive an engraved award from the Box Elder News and Journal at the end of the season. At Regional Office Permits can be purchased at the Ogden Regional office located in Washington Terrace. Fricke said the latest storm knocked most of the leaves off trees which should aid hunters in seeing their quarry. Deer might be more scattered than before the storm, however. Two point bucks will make up the majority of deer taken, said Fricke.. The western areas have always been popular and will attract a larger number of hun- ters. Populations there are listed as better than in years past. Hunter success should be above 40 per cent count-widsaid Fricke. Fricke advised hunters to be sure to obey the hunter orange law, requiring at least 400 square inches of the material on head, chest and back. Officers will be in the field to issue citations for violations of the law, which is in effect for the first time this year. And if youre planning to head to the high country, go Oct. 28. Fricke said the grouse season and hunters can take a shotgun along to fill the camp pot. The fishing season wont end until next month, either, and the fly rod can provide a mess of fish for camp breakfast. Fricke also asked hunters to be cautious of targets and courteous of fellow hunters. On the other hand, who ever heard of a thirsty fish? With all that water around, youd think they would be tired of the stuff. This is not the case, according to biologists reports studied by the angling experts at Mercury outboards. They say that some fish drink water to satisfy a great thirst, whde others con- tinually work their body system at full pace in an effort to prevent additional water intake. Salt is the key to a fishs internal water needs. Salt is a necessary element in fish blood, and the presence or absence of it in the surrounding water determines the amount of drinking a fish does. Because salt tends to diffuse by osmosis from areas of high concentration to areas of low freshwater fish concentration, are always losing salt from their blood. To counteract this, their kidneys function primarily to remove water from their bodies and retain the salts. Freshwater fish do little drinking, preferring to stay on the wagon most of the tune. Martinez added the point after. . Sunshine, mud and more deer than last year are forecast for Saturdays annual opening of the buckskin brigade. With the recent rainfall still noticeable in the form of muddy roads and big puddles, hunters are making plans for the annual pursuit of the mule deer, which for the most will be confined to bucks only. In Box Elder and Cache counties, the chase appears to be more worthwhile than in the past three seasons. John Fricke, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officer in Brigham City, notes a slightly better hunt this year if good weather comes.
