Show October 26, 1939 Paga 18 Emery County Progress Business Revie Rsenatien district enhances qnlify of life Emery County Recreation Special Service District with cooperation from Emery County its employees and commissioners have accomplished many programs and projects throughout the year. Three new programs w ere started this year. There are over 900 kids in the different youth sport programs includingfootball, Jr. Jazz, wrestling, girls softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, a track meet and special needs individuals. The programs are run by volunteers throughout the county The first new program of 1999 was for kids with special needs and has been very' successful The first event of this program was a dancey'aerobies class w hich the Spardettes taught. The second was a swimming lesson ciass w hich was taught by swim teachers and lifeguards at the Castle Dale swimming pool. Next year we plan on adding a tennis event to this program. In May the recreation department created a Hersheys Track and Field program for kids ages This is the second new program created this year. The recreation department hopes to expand this program to involve 4. more youth through involvement with Emery County schools. These children are able to advance to state and national finals with the national finals beingheld in Hershey Pennsylvania. Pro sports came to Emery County for the first time in July in the form of the San Rafael Pro Rodeo. Rodeo fans of Emery County made this a tremendous success. Thousands of fans attended the rodeo Friday night spilling out of the grandstands with a sellout crowd of 1700. This event was promised to be guaranteed family entertainment" and it was. This rodeo will be an annual event. An extra day has been added to next years e ent. Ike Sankey has agreed to be the stock contractor for next years dates of July 27, 28,429. Just before school started in August, the recreation department organized a trip to watch the Salt Lake Buzz play baseball. This trip included a chartered bus ride, tickets into the game, an all you can eat meal and fireworks after the game. Unfortunately the game was rained out, but every- one who went still had a great time. The recreation department hopes to organize other recreational trips in the future for people of all ages. Soccer has made a come back after being dormant for many years. This is the third new program this year. This program is for children in first through sixth grades. Many children are par- ticipating and learning about soccer. Several people volunteered and have helped to make this a successful program. We hope to continue this program throughout the year. The recreation department maintains Little Bear Campll ground and the Huntington soft-ba- complex. In May a new culinary water system at Little Bear Campground w as installed. This has greatly improved the access and quality of water to campers. Pavilion rentals are run through the recreation office. A newiy ed application which lists campgroundpavilion proce- dures and rates was recently approved. The applications will be available through the recreation office. Field 3 at the Huntington soft-ba- ll complex was recently re- the projects. The following city projects are either completed or are currently under construction: Fbrron is currently improving the restrooms at the rodeo grounds with funding help from E.C. Recreation. Orange ille erected three Recreation. Castle Dale is currently constructing a new full size baseball field and facilities with funding help from E.C. Recreation. Huntington recently renovated the catwalk at the rodeo grounds with funding from E.C. Recre- ation. Cleveland has completed a pavilion and added picnic tables at the park. Restrooms at the ballpark are currently under construction with funding from E.C. Recreation. Green River purchased bleachers for the baseball field Elmo is currently waiting to receive monies from the community impact board to combine with E.C. Recreation funding to build a new park.
