Show 2A Emery County Progress, Castle Dale, Utah' Tuesday, October 26, 1999 Halloween play begins season for EHS Drama loween comedy that will be held in the high school au- The Emery High School Friday and Saturday, Oct. Drama Department will 28, 29, and 30. The play, present its first play of the Honeymoon At Gravesideschool year on Thursday, Manor is a hilarious Hal- ditorium each night beginning at 7 p.m. The cost is $2 for students and children and $3 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from Emery High Drama students. This play is the comic story of a writer and his new bride who spend their honeymoon night at a haunted house that belonged to his ancestors. The happy couple are joined by a group of high school kids who are planning on using the old mansion for a spook alley, an escaped mental patient looking for someplace to blow up, a ghost and a local sheriff looking for a donut. The play lasts about an hour and a half and is fun for Jaley Hinkins and Shawn Judd rehearsing their roles in Honeymoon at Graveside Manor. A Tuna Christmas" is a full length play where the cast of five will plays 22 different roles. This is the sequel to Greater Tuna which Emery High performed four years ago and it will be performed in the Little Theater. The fourth play of the year will be presented in February and is called My Fatal Valentine." It is a dessert theater, audience par-- . ticipation murder mystery that will be held at the Country Cafe in Castle Dale. Production just started on this comedymystery and it will involve students from the Advanced Drama class. This was the day of. the birth of Elva Maria Davis, the ninth child of Ernest Edward Davis and Nancy Maria Shoemaker, Elva was bom in the little, home where the family lived one block south of Main Street in Cleveland, Utah. Elvas childhood was a happy one. She spent her time herding pigs and cows, making mud pies with her sisters, learning sewing and handiwork cooking with her mother; and learning to garden with her father. In the fall of 1 942 he moved the family to Sunnyside, Utah to work in the mine. During this time the children all had the measles and chicken pox. Little Deon just didnt get better and on Feb. 18, 1943 he died of pneumonia, In April 1945 Ernie Delan was born in Sunnyside, Utah. They loved having other little brother and he was welcomed with open arms into the family, In August of 1947 Rex was burned In the mine, he never really recovered. After spending a couple of Cleve-chestr- an-O- a. ne months in the hospital took the grain he had where he was very ill, he earned and sold it to buy a load of watermelons. He hi- vited all of his friends to come and so it was that Elva found herself at a wa- termelon bust. Rex had given everyone half a melon and Elva ate on hers until it was nice and juicy. Then being rather im- pulsive, she decided to' throw it up in the ait and see where it would land, Rex looked up just In time to have it ring his face. Be- fore long Elva was wearing a ring on her finger and they were married in 1931 In Price, Utah. Thelr wedding night was a long one with family and friends working hard to keep the new bride and groom apart. Nell helped hide with a blanket In a ditch. She stayed there all night waiting for Rex who , . died on March 5, 1948. On his death Elva was left with four children; Shawna 15, Thyrill 13, Delvin 10, and Ernie almost 3. Rex and Elva had always loved to sing. They sang on trips and around the house and while working, but after he died she almost stopped ' singing, She took a job managing theater in Sunnyside where she met John Wayne. They were married and moved to Oregon for a while and then moved back to Cleveland. Elva never' moved away from Cleve- land after that, ' When she was again left rearing her children alone she worked very hard to a make ends meet.
