Drawing a line in the sandbox, a judge has issued a court order to make the little boy play nice. "Maybe it's a little emotional, maybe it's overprotective, but you do what you can," said Stacy's mother, Antonina Pevnev, who filed for the restraining order, claiming Jonathan kicked her daughter in the head. The incident took place while the were playing in the Charles River Park playground on the Charles River. Jonathan had bullied Stacy before, Pevnev said. Pevnev went to court, asking that Jonathan not even and his mother, Margareth Inge be allowed in the playground while her daughter was there. d Feb. 2$: Boy to Debra and Derrek Smith of Provo. CENTER: 3-year-- bully old coming from a lawyer, of how people are starting to rely too much on the courts to solve problems that just don't belong there." Inge did not return a telephone message seeking comment. Where did Pevnev get the idea of the restraining order? "The police," she said. "They said their hands were tied." Pevnev has followed up the restraining order with an assault and battery complaint against Jonathan. Why? Again an officer suggested it, saying it would be a good idea to have something on file in case of future trou- "I fear that both these people are violent and she applauds and encourages Jonathan to be violent, to fight and kick and to behave in a manner not becoming a responsible child," Pevnev wrote in her complaint. On Monday, Superior Court Judge Charles Spurlock decided that the mothers must keep the children supervised and separated while at the playground. Violators can be held in contempt, fined or in theory, at least. But since it even jailed would be tough to prove a knowingly violated a court order, chances are that only would get punished. the grown-up- s Howard Speicher, the boy's lawyer, called the whole thing ludicrous and said it should never have left the playground. Pevnev said she would have dropped legal which has cost her more than $800 action if Jonathan and his mother had apologized. ooo 0 0 0 ME 1MB FREE On-The-G- Mini Yellow Authorized Retailer MOTOROLA 9.9 Ox. White is not limited to lofty spheres. The medical profession is also associated with white. Despite the fact that few nurses wear white dresses and perky white hats, they are often portrayed that way by the media. Doctors no longer cling to white lab coats as vestiges of knowledge and authority. Hospital rooms have forsaken antiseptic white for softer shades of blue and green. While white marks occasions throughout life, black is the color for death. Black is the color of the night. It belongs to the unknown. It is appropriate that black should express the grief of losing a mortal life. After all it is black's opposite, white, which depicts the beginning of life. While widows no longer wear black for a year after their husband's death and homes of the bereaved fail to be decorated in black crepe, black is still associated w ith passing of life. Certainly, everyone attending a funeral seldom wears black these days. However, hot pink is unlikely to become a standard at funerals. Dark colors indicate respect for the dead. There is no doubt that the use of colors is really cultural. Some societies use w hite for mourning and red for weddings. Using certain colors for certain events is part of the enculturation process. Ideas may change, but is harder to alter cultural color customs. Next week's column will focus on color and holidays. $27,99 LAMS with "bate All: $22.99 Chunks 40 (51 free) (5 March Madness Sale!! s5 Mini Chunks 40 40fmaint light 25J9 Less active 40 $20.99 Senior Lamb free) & 2Spetmaint $2149 $19.49 $2199 $22.99 Rice 40 (51 free) 25f pet aaint light 'Free 24 oz. box of biscuits with each bag. limited to quantities on hand! Granted the color pink is generally reserved for baby girls. But while baby boys do not wear pink, baby girls certainly wear blue. Girls also wear overalls and jeans. Sometimes the only way to tell a baby girl from a boy is to look for ruffles or flowers. When in doubt, it is best to ask. Parents can now use any color for a girl that may have formerly been reserved for boys the use of primary colors in girl's quilts is an example but the color palette for boys has not been extended. Baby colors are probably an extension of a cultural happening, the women's movement. One mark of folklore is its adaptability. So while pink and blue remain, new colors and clothing styles become acceptable also. While babies may voyage into new color experiences, there remains one event where while is still customarily used. For their christening, baptism or blessing, infants in Western culture still favor white. Our culture associates white with purity and cleanliness of spirit and body. Regardless of religious beliefs. Christians view babies as pure either going into the ceremony or coming out. White is culturally accepted, and while other colors may be used, white is the traditional color for babies to wear during religious ceremonies. Another landmark is marriage. It is traditional for the bride to wear white for her wedding. Try to picture a 17th century woman cooking over an open fire in a white dress and you'll see what I mean. So w hite was mostly the wedding color of the noble. Given the obsession for '"blue" blood lines, the purity of a bride, as indicated by her white dress, was essential. White might also indicate the bride's entrance into a new life, just as her christening or blessing marked the beginning of her physical life. The idea of w hite as purity extends to other areas such as the giving of flowers. White roses stand for true love. Lilies are the flower of the resurrection. For Christians, the resurrection marks the beainnina of a purer, eternal When Stephanie was born, she was quickly wrapped in a pink blanket.
