Alfredo Kraus. Jon Vickers. Carlo Cossutta. Mirelia Freni. Leontyne Price. Sher-ril- l Milnes. Judith Blegen. Margaret Price. Nicolai Ghiaurov, Geraint Evans and others will be featured in operatic arias, duets and scenes and Giuseppe de Stefano. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. Hans Hotter, Giulietta Simionato. Nicola Bidu Sayao. Leopold Simoneau and Eleanor Steber will reminise about their lyric opera involvements. It will be presented in a three-houconcert taped "live" at Chicago's Civic Ope ra House on Thanksgiving Day at 1 pm "The Nutcracker,'" a seasonal favorite of audiences who discover the thrill and sadness of Clara's encounter with the charming Nutcracker Prince. Upon hearing that the world might be deprived of a recording of the "Messiah" by these two world renowned musical giants, he sent a personal check to cover the needed expenses. Not only did the recording recoup all expenses, but it went on to become the first gold record of a classical album. a Sunday radio "Music and the Spoken Word" and television program has featured the choir. "More Than Music" tells how the choir has been the vehicle for attracting people to the Mormon Church. In Ecuador, a missionary was playing one of years, has written an affectionate tribute to the choir. The choir, he says, has done much to break down barriers between the LDS Church, its sponsoring organization, and other denominations. Some years ago, the Choir and the Philadelphia Orchestra were scheduled to record Handel's "Messiah." Because no classical recording by any, artist had ever sold in large numbers, the producer felt that the expense of moving either of these large organizations to join the other would be too much, considering the limited return expected. The choir and the orchestra had Louw Beverley Louw, who coordinates the Interper- sonal Relations and Communications Lab at BYU, is giving an art show in the Law Walk-I- November. He said someone had given him a cassette recording years before with that music on it, but that he never knew the name of the Choir. He had worn out the cassette from playing it so much, and asked to listen to the recording. Afterwards he mentioned the good feeling he had while hearing the music, exactly the same feeling he had when he had listened to the tape years before. He later became a Mormon.
