ANOTHER DEOP IN rXOUR SURPRISES DEALERS IN GRAIN. nt The present scarcity of turkeys in the local market is unprecedented and Its like not remerabeud by the older dealers. A careful search was made today along Market row and not more than tor turkeys were found. One dealer had six In his store, but said that they were all sold and would be delivered tomorrow. The scarcity has sent prices soaring, and the dealer who has the birds lor sale is getting 30 cents per pound. With Christmas day but a week distant this state of affairs seems alarming. Some dealers are fearful of a turkey others are confident that famine; enough will be brought In the first part of next week to fill the demands. All other poultry is here in plenty, and no scarcity is anticipated along ihese lines. Chickens, roasting size, find a ready market from 17 to 20 cents per pound. Tame geese remain steady at 20 cents per pound, and there is a good demand for tame ducks at IS to 20 cents for the same quantity. Few Wild Ducks on Hand. Few wild ducks and geese are on the market, because of the fact that the lawful time lor shooting these birds expired on the loth of this month. As soon as the present supply is exhausted there will be no more until the season opens again. Wild ducks bring 25 to fiO cents per pair, and geese 16 cent? per pound. Jackrabbits are plentiful, but are in strong demand at 20 cents each. The meat market has been replenished this week by having added to it several large shipments of mutton and beef, all of which was raised on Utah ranches. Beef sells at from 20 to L'li cents for the roasting and best pp.rtf while mutton brings from 5 to 20 cents per pound, depending on the cuts. Suckling pigs are rather scarce and sell fol-at 21 cents per pound. Other prices low: Lamb, 13 cents per pound; porterhouse steaks, 20 cents; round steak, 12Va cents; ribs of beef. 13 cents; pot roast, 8 cents to 10 rents; shoulder of mutton. 3 cents; veal cutlets, 13 to 20 rents; bacon, 23 cents; ham, 20 cents a pound. Potatoes Cheaper Soon. In the vegetable market, potatoes are srld by some dealers at 85 cents per bushel, while others keep the old. price of 90 cents. After the Christmas roli- - Contrary to expectations flour has gone down asraln, another Flic being taken off this week. This makes the second plm'l.ir competitive cut within the past two weeki These prices rule the flour and grain market.
