Show Citizen, Press, Review, Wed., Dec. 12, 1984 - Page 16 Presidency offers Christmas message Following is a Christmas message from the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, which includes President Spencer W. Kimball, world leader of the church, and his counselors, President Marion G. Romney and President Gordon B. Hinckley: To the people of all nations we extend our love and greetings this holy season. We proclaim that the babe born in Bethlehem two thousand years ago was indeed the Christ, the Savior of all mankind. In Him all humankind - past, present and future - have hope. In Him can be found the personal peace that eludes so much of the world. The events that began in Bethlehem and ended in Jerusalem are the focal point of all history. The humble birth we commemorate was prelude to the awesome events of Gethsemane and Calvary, and Christmas takes on its deepest meaning when we recall that the ministry that began in a stable ended with an empty tomb. The proper celebration of Christmas is a joyous expression of thanks to God for the marvelous gift of His Only Begotten Son. The season's hymns and carols are a continuing echo of the angelic hpard by the shepherds. n; encourage a tradition of the Savior through worshiping loving service to fellowmen. Bethlehem's bright star guided the Men to the Savior, Christlike , Wise lives today can be a bright beacon to the many who do not yet know of their Redeemer. We join with Nephi, the prophet of old, in 'proclaiming that "we rejoice in Christ." We also look forward with hope and faith to the time when He shall return again. We pray that all may seek the peace that is to be found in Christ; that all may look beyond the merchandising and socializing to the One whose birth we celebrate. Among the many lands where Christmas is observed, there is a great variety of holiday traditions. That all may find the hope and peace that come through Jesus Christ is our fervent prayer this Christmas season and always. ; GAS Nursing homes prepare for Christmas Nursing homes in the area are getting ready for Christmas activities and visitors. Volunteers from the community play a big role in making Christmas a happy time for these elderly residents by Christmas in special bringing programs, plays, family home evening programs, music and so on. Larsen's Nursing Home in Lehi, a small facility where 28 residents live, is all ready for Christmas, according to Ann Rhodes, Recreation Director. "We have decorated, turned up the Christmas music, and are anxiously waiting to hear from Santa to say when he will visit," she says. "Other years we have been fortunate to have Santa visit us and we are hoping he won't forget us this year. A few of the ladies want to tell him what they want for Christmas," Ms. Rhodes says. The residents enjoy having people bring in small pets for short visits of 15 to 20 minutes, so they can pet and touch them. "Animals have a very good therapeutic effect on older people," Rhodes says - "many of them have had pets of their own in the pdsl, and recalling their own s' their programming on the needs of experiences is very exciting for their residents, according to them." f therapists.
