Grove tourney Lehi's young wrestlers improving Debbie Naylor, girls basketball coach at Lehi High School, is optimistic about her team. "We've got all our starters back, but so has everybody else. The region will be reallly tough this year." she said. A slate of games began with a battle against Tooele last Tuesday. The Pioneers lost that one but Naylor thought her team played very well despite the loss. "We had even scoring, but we will have to improve our offensive rebounding. That's what we've been working on all week." the enthusiastic coach stated. to Heber City Thursday for a game with the Wasatch High Wasps. n Their schedule also includes the Pleasant Grove Invitational Tournament starting Dec. 18 at the Pleasant Grove High Gymnasium. Lehi will play at 5:30 on Tuesday against Springville. American Fork and Pleasant Grove will also compete in the tournament. The championship game will be played Wednesday, Dec. 19. The Pioneer Ladies' first home game will be against Jordan on Jan. She also said, "We've got to get more scoring off the bench. We're working on that too." Tracy Peck got high point honors with 17. The Pioneer ladies played Grantsville Tuesday and will travel -- Wrestlers at Lehi High School this year are young and inexperienced with only three varsity grapplers back, joined by three with junior varsity experience and six rookies. But Coach Dennis Toland is confident of their chances in the region dual meets, and he and Coach Ken Pierce are working hard with the young men to prepare them for the season. Coaches feel that the boys can finish in the middle of a very tough region race with Spanish Fork, the defending state champions, having lost only one from last year. "Pleasant Grove is always tough," according to Toland, and Payson has the best team they have ever fielded, although they have a tradition of losing boys during the season. Springville and Carbon are not expected to be especially strong, so Coach Toland figures to finish in a dog fight for third-fourtwith Payson. Six Lehi wrestlers performed especially well last Friday and Saturday at the Nebo Invitational in Spanish Fork. At 112, freshman second pin at 112 over Petersen.
