The Lady Utes' basketball team will host Northern Arizona, 3, in a Saturday evening game this weekend. The Utes are trying to come back after dropping two games on the road last weekend, to Northwestern and Pittsburgh at the Northwestern Tournament in Evanston, Illinois. Utah was 0 beading into the weekend, but a 5 drubbing by the Wildcats in the opening round forced the Utes into a consolation game vs. the Lady Panthers, which they also lost, 74-5-0. Senior forward Anne Handy led the team in scoring in each contest, and is averaging an even 20 points a game heading into this weekend. Handy is fourth among Utes in career scoring, with 1306 points, and is career in third rebounding, with 858. Although scoring was not their strong point in Illinois, the Utes are also being paced by seniors Leshia Lee and Anita Stitics, each of whom are averaging a little more than 10 points a game. Handy and Lee are leading the team in rebounds, averaging 8.6 and 7.4 boards a game, 3-- 3-- 88-6- all-ti- Saturday will be the fifth time the teams have met; Utah leads the series 4-- The Lumberjacks were resoundingly beaten by the Utes in 1 979, 124-6- 8, in Salt Lake. The 124 Utah points set a school record for die Utes. Nevertheless, Utah Coach Fltinc Elliott said her team is not looking pas t NAU. "Northern Arizona is a vastly improved team from the last time we faced it. The fact that NAU beat New Mexico by 20 points proves that, she said. The Lumberjacks are led by senior scoring guard Julie Hanks, averaging 17.1 points a game, junior forward Shannon Peterson, shooting 1 1 .3 points a game and center Pecola Miller, who's firing in an average of 10.8 points a game. Though the Lumberjacks are a stronger team, Elliott said the biggest problem the Utes are going to have to overcome is themselves. "We're not going to worry so much about NAU as we are about our offensive execution this week. We're not getting consistent scoring from anyone except Anne Handy," she said.
