Q Q Q Q i n a vi A ( Harriet Welsh Marriott Library Editor In the midst of studying for final exams, I couldn't help comment on Matt Lalli's editorial of Dec. 3 Q Q O I would like to first address his issue concerning sex education. I was personally who became pregnant; she acquainted with a didn't think babies came from storks, but this is not the only myth which guides young children. By the way, this happened only two years ago changing times haven't : shed light on old myths. Obviously, die definition of abnormal and good sex is an individual or medical decision. Additionally, individuals decide for themselves what is or is not a sexual problem; it is no wonder your article referred to 'good' and 'abnormal' sex as "whatever that is." Please set aside your sarcastic judgments on this individual matter. Dr. Westhcimer's style of presentation is not for everybody some find her offensive. There are, however, many people with questions and sexual problems 13-year-- old " "-- - (problems because they have defined them as problems), who are too timid to seek out a sex therapist. If Dr. Westheimer does nothing more than bring up problems some may have, and help them from feeling alone, it's a step in a positive direction. Personally, I think Dr. Westheimer presents sex in a comfortable fashion. easy-to-relate- -to From your final comment concerning Christie Brinkley, and from the tone throughout your article, it would seem your view of sex is that of a joke something about in the locker room. I hope we all don't you tec-hshare such a view. -- o Sex myths still exist O r but o oooooooooo w J government Nicaragua. Reeve charges the Sandinistas with having a "systematic extermination decree" against the Miskito Indians. This is absolutely untrue. Miskitos have been the victims of human rights abuses under the Sandinistas. Thousands were forcibly relocated, and nearly 400 were detained at different times after 1981 under the Public Order Law. However, in December 1983, the government admitted it had made a serious mistake in the treatment the Miskitos. A general was declared, freeing those in. prison and amnesty the charges against others 307 in all. There is dropping no substantial evidence that executions, ''disappearances' (by standard definition), or torture are committed on a systematic basis by the Nicaraguan government. Thank you for the opportunity to correct this serious factual error. cause of early pregnancy even 364-94- 27 WHETHER YOU'RE PACKING IT ACROSS CAMPUS...0R ee Terri A. Baade Headline misleading Editor. On Nov. 9, the Chronicle published an article on the University Orchestra for which most of the information was gleaned from an interview with me by the author, Richard Adams. The thrust of my statements was that the Orchestra is a fine organization in which the university community has taken insufficient pride. A glaring misprint aside, that sentiment came across reasonably well in the text of the article, although too much space may have been devoted to circumstances bringing about my resignation. I greatly appreciate the Chronicle 's interest in our organization, and I encourage its greater involvement in the performing arts on campus. I must voice a serious objection, however, to the most unfortunate and misleading headline "Orchestra 'lacks desire.'" I stated in the course of the interview than an inhibiting factor in the setting of high artistic standards is the understandable fact that most of our players do hot have a desire to pursue professional performance as a career. I certainly did not mean to imply that there is rampant nonchalance or apathy in the ranks, as does the headline. It is ironic that, in attempting to generate enthusiasm and respect for the Orchestra, the Chronicle and I have been undermined by a headline that could only lead to the diametrically opposite impression and insult our member's dedication. Dr. Jason Klein Conductor, University Symphony Orchestra Editor's Note: The Chronicle apologizes not only for the error, but also for the delay in the publication of this letter.
