At the Roy High School Science and Engineering Fair, these questions and many others were answered. included 63 The fair, held Feb. different projects that involved 65 Roy High students. The topics ranged from synthetic soil to thermonuclear war. Judging of the fair was completed Feb. 20, and it was later opened to the public, concluding Friday afternoon. The exhibits held a special interest for both military and civilian personnel of Hill AFB. The judges included 12 members from the base that took time out of their schedules to assist in the balloting for awards. Other judges were from the Roy City Police Department, 20-2- 2, Weber State College and Birdworld. The Air Force participates with other organizations in these science fairs to recognize scientific accomplishments of America's youth. It provides an opportunity for the Aif Force to encourage young Americans to seek careers in science or engineering and promote awareness of opportunities in Air Force research and development. Air Force judges award 12 outstanding project awards and one most ou- tstanding project award, the latter being given to one winner from among the 12 Air Force winners. Other organizations also present awards to participants. Other exhibits that drew some attention were "Can Infectious Diseases in Plants Be Controlled By the Use of Antibiotics" by Tony Bass and Brenda Tail's "Analysis of No. 2 Concentrations along the Wasatch Front." Brenda will compete in the Weber State College Regional Fair March 27. Air Force judges will participate in judging the St. Joseph Catholic High School Science Fair today and the Weber Regional Science Fair March 27. Fair organizers expressed their gratitude to Hill AFB and the judges of the major award but she will also be competing in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Shreveport, La. Wayne Eastes was another big winner with his project, "Chemical Storage of Solar Energy." With this exhibit Wayne won 11 awards before the science fair was over. The Air Force judges that represented Hill AFB gave the solar energy model three awards. Capt. Thomas J. Whitacre, Directorate of Contracting and Manufacturing and the coordinating judge of the Air Force staff, said the accessibility of the fair was excellent and that it was an outstanding opportunity for Hill AFB to be represented in the community. Captain Whitacre explained the judging criteria concerned "projects relevant to Air Force research and development," as well as utilization of the judging criteria provided by the local school or if ' forts and input in several categories.
