Tim Barrett 2849th Security Police Squadron Reported incidents of theft, attempted suicide, telephone harassment, alcohol and drug abuse dotted the police blotter during the week of Feb. 15-21. Thefts Personal belongings valued at $160 were reported stolen from a room on the second floor of Barracks 523, including a racquetball racquet, cassette tapes and a fencing sword. A suspicious person was spotted on Wardleigh Way carrying government property to his vehicle. Security Police apprehended the military member for attempted theft of government property. Fifty feet of fire hose was taken from a government vehicle in the early afternoon of Feb. 19. On Feb. 21, a Crime Stop caller reported an individual had left Bldg. 849 carrying government property in a paper bag. Security Police investigated the call, which resulted in the apprehension of a base employee for attempted theft of government property. Drug, alcohol incidents A base employee was stopped after Security Police observed him operating his vehicle on the sidewalk. An investigation ensued, but the vehicle operator refused to submit to an intoxilyzer test. The west gate sentry stopped a vehicle for an ID check and detected the odor of alcohol upon contacting the two military members. The passenger attempted to interfere with the investigation and was u fluence. NCO Club management reported that a minor at the club was using false identification and had been 'detained. An investigation by Security Policy revealed that the individual was in possession of false ID and was underage. The individual was appre- hended and a report was filed. The west gate sentry observed open containers of alcoholic beverage in a vehicle during ID checks. Two arrests were made for open container in a vehicle and public intoxication. On the night of Feb. 21, a patrolman stopped a vehicle he observed operating in an erratic manner. After contacting the driver, a moderate odor of alcoholic beverage was detected. An intoxilyzer test was administered which recorded a blood alcohol content of .11 percent. On Feb. 19, a police dog led Security Police to a breakroom locker in Bldg. 225. A search of the locker revealed a white powder, which was checked in a field test kit for suspected cocaine. The test was negative. A military spouse was apprehended for an open container in a vehicle. The violation was detected by the south gate sentry during ID checks. Other incidents Security Police responded to an attempted suicide on Concord Street, as reported by a Crime Stop caller. No evidence of a suicide attempt was noted. 1 Yrsnn nn Residents of an address on Lexington Street were receiving harassing phone calls from juveniles. The suspects were identified in a police report. A military(member was apprehended by Security Police after an investigation revealed that he was on his way to work with a rifle in his vehicle. The member was charged with unauthorized transport of a weapon on base, and the rifle was signed into the Security Police Armory. The Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources was contacted after a .dead raccoon and a dead fox were discovered in the back of a pick-uThanks to a concerned Crime Stop caller, Security Police invest! erated the renort and the fox was confiscated by a DWR representative. , p. Jail checks On the morning of Feb. 17, the Davis County Jail reported that three military members had been booked into jail. The first individual was arrested by Sunset Police for DUI with a .08 blood alcohol content; the second was also arrested for DUI with a .14 blood alcohol content. Bail was set at $556 for each of the DUI arrests. The third member was arrested in Layton for attempted criminal homicide after allegedly, firing three shots at a woman with a .357 caliber revolver. On Feb. 18, the Weber County Jail reported that one member had been booked after being arrested for DUI and driving while under suspension, and the Davis County Jail reported one member arrested for failure to appear in court. Both individuals made bail and were released.
