Main, American Fork 756-9643 1 Larry Cardon Pleasant Grove Jr. High honors April heroes Pleasant Grove Junior High is pleased to announce their Heroes of the Month for April. Whitney Andersen and Tom Call have been selected as the student heroes, with Darlene Barney as the school hero, and April Harmer as the community hero. Seventh grader Whitney Andersen is the daughter of Orrin and Dianna Andersen in Pleasant Grove, and is the oldest of six girls, with one older brother. She is described as the ultimate babysitter, and her parents say she is like a second mom at their house. She likes to read, write, and enjoys drama. She is also musical, and plays the piano and violin, as well as sings. Those who nominated her say she is a great help and comfort to others, and say she is helpful, kind and loving. Tom Call, also in seventh grade, is the son of Bruce and Patty Call. He enjoys computer games, volleyball, basketball and Scouting activities. He was nominated nominat-ed by a friend who said he makes everyone around him feel good about themselves, them-selves, and his smile brightens bright-ens everyone's day. His parents par-ents say he is a grateful person per-son who is compassionate and patient, and his good r . t '' i l ' I it. . X in; , " f ' April Harmer grades keep him on the honor or high honor roll. Darlene Barney has been the secretary at the junior high for the past three years. She was nominated because she serves PGJHS with a smile on her face. She is genuinely concerned about the faculty, students and administrators of the school, and goes the extra mile for all. She is married to Douglas Barney and has four children and six grandchildren. grand-children. She was raised in California. She lived in Orem for about ten years before moving to Pleasant Grove four years ago. In Tom Call, Whitney Andersen and Darlene Barney Jod in' i Sherry Fralick and family. Fralick graduates from UVSC Graduation Day at UVSC was a dream come true for Sherry Fralick and her family. The kids were proud of their mom in her cap and gown. She graduated graduat-ed April 27 from UVSC wearing the gold chords, graduating with honors. It has been a life long dream of Sherry's to be an elementary teacher. She recently completed her student stu-dent teaching at Eaglecrest Elementary in Lehi. Sherry is a single mother and did not attend college before she married. It has been quite a challenge chal-lenge to be a mom, keep up with her studies, and work two grave yard shifts a week at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center as a clerk on the Intensive Care floor. It has been a long haul attending classes during the school year and continuing through the summer last year in order to graduate this spring. She said she is delighted it is all over and is looking forward to teaching school this fall. The family is seen at a lot of sporting events with Cory 18, Cameron 16, Michael 14 and the twins, Melissa and Marci, 10, participating par-ticipating in activities. Sherry is the daughter of Don and Pat Hardman of Pleasant Grove. She has four brothers, Brian and (Dana), Barry and (Careen), Douglas and (Marie) and Kelly Hardman. Her family is proud of her for accomplishing accom-plishing this goal. her spare time, she loves cooking, gardening, quilting, quilt-ing, tole painting and being a grandma. April Harmer is best known for her role as librarian librar-ian at the Pleasant Grove City Library. She was raised in Pleasant Grove, and except for a short time spent in Idaho, she has lived in the same vicinity all her life. Her father died while she was young, and her mother was always in poor health, so the six living, children helped take care of their mom. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Harmer, who passed Garth Fielding to retire from PG Jr. High Garth Fielding will retire from Pleasant Grove Junior High School this year. He will be honored at an open house on May 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the school, 800 N. 100 West. Mr. Fielding has taught math and computer science for 31 years at the junior high school. He is known for being a teacher who made math easy to understand. He helped teach kids to play chess and to remember difficult dif-ficult math skills by making it fun and more like a game than work. He was a sponsor spon-sor for the first chess club at the junior high. He was Teacher of the Year in 1995-96. 1995-96. He has helped at basketball basket-ball games, track meets and school dances. He was department chairman several sev-eral times. He initiated a "Help Session" two nights a week for students to come after school for help with math. She began working at the library 16 years ago, and started the summer reading program. She has been head librarian for the past seven years, and has seen the library use increase. She is known for being very patient and understanding, and a good listener. Her daughters describe her as an optimist who never complains. com-plains. She enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her eight grandchildren. His classes score above average in district and state exams. Garth is married to Ruby Fowles Fielding and is the father of six children: Garth (Annalisa), Alecia (Jared) Bales, Clint (serving a mission mis-sion in Japan), Cami, Michael and Emily. He has two granddaughters, one grandson and one on the way. His parents are the late Fay and Grace Walker Fielding. J 1 mtroducm Brent H. Goodsell, DO, a board-eligible dermatologist, has joined the medical staff at American Fork Hospital. His practice provides a full range of treatment in general medical and surgical dermatology. Dr. Goodsell received his medical degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM) in Kirksville, Miss. He completed an 4 internship with Carson City Hospital in Carson City, Mich, and worked for four years as a general practitioner practition-er and emergency room physician. Dr. Goodsell then returned to KCOM St. Louis University to complete a dermatology residency. He has also received special training in the MOHS technique for tumor removal. For one and a half years, Dr. Goodsell has been working as a dermatologist in Orem in association with with Dr. Kraig Jenson. New patients are being accepted at his new office in American Fork.
