It was a beautiful spring day with the second grade students singing, "You Can Be a Light," tributes given by Jourdan's principal and teachers, a poem by a friend, and special thoughts expressed by Jourdan's mom, Jamie. Jourdan died in a tragic accident seven month's ago, when she fell through the roof of a building in the yard. It has been a great loss to the family, who gathered gath-ered at the school with her parents, Jim and Jamie along with brother and sisters, sis-ters, Jessica, Jason, Jonie and Jill. Principal Hansen spoke at the tree planting and said friends will always remember her smile. He noted the school wanted to pay tribute to Jourdan and the PTA ask for donations to plant a tree in her honor. However, students brought so many donations to the school, the PTA decided to also buy a bench and plaque in her memory. The principal noted, "The tree and bench will be there a long time after we leave as a memory of Jourdan, this is a special place, don't let anyone do anything to mar the tree or the bench, ever." Jourdan's first grade teacher, Mrs. Vorheis, said Jourdan was special. She said she will always remember remem-ber Jourdan's happy smile. Mr. Laudie, her second grade teacher, noted it was a solemn time for him. He said Jourdan was so happy, an enthusiastic little red head, it was fitting to have a Red Maple tree planted in her honor and a red bench installed near the tree. Jourdan's mother, Jamie Carson, expressed love for all the kids, the staff and the faculty. "Each of you remember, she loves you, remember to 1 '- 4i "S ' r- Photo by Kalyn Secretan The Carson family is next to the tree that was planted in Jourdan's honor at Valley View Elementary. love one another, the words watched as they drifted into are so powerful and so sim ple, Carson said. "Not a week goes by that we haven't received a call, a card or a package at the door. People send love and support to our family, we are grateful for good neighbors." neigh-bors." Carson thanked her special neighbors and Mr. Freeman for the memory book. The second grade students stu-dents sang and released balloons and everyone the sky. Many family mem bers gathered for the occasion occa-sion and Jourdan's grandfather, grandfa-ther, Gary Carson, reflected on another family tree that was planted at Valley View in 1983 in honor of his brother- in-law, Larry Beveridge. The principal at Valley View died and a pine tree was planted in his honor on the South East corner of the school. I. ' Mwm(MiiWWiuii'jfiiM .'(wuu.ww!f--!r-w: ' s.i t 11 II i Save 10 on any sonice.
