Show Pleasant Grove Review New Utah! - Wednesday, May 2, 2001 - Page 6 Blaine Edman named new Jr. High By Kalyn Secretan Blaine Edman, Assistant Principal at Pleasant Grove High, will be the principal at Pleasant Grove Jr. High this fall. Edman is excited to be going back to a junior high school. That was his original origi-nal level where he started his teaching career. He has really enjoyed the high school but likes the junior high as well. He grew up in the Holladay area in Salt Lake. He graduated from Olympus High School and BYU where he got his Bachelor's Degree. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Utah. Jr. High Seminary Building dedicated By Kalyn Secretan Students and parents gathered at the Pleasant Grove Jr. High Seminary for a dedication ceremony on Sunday, April 29. The Garden Stake President, Rex Barrington welcomed the group to the special program. The Seminary Choir sang "As Zions Youth," directed by a member of the faculty, Brother Griffiths and accompanied by Erica Glenn. A portable wall between two classrooms was opened up to accommodate the group assembled. Brother Taylor introduced the theme for the Seminary program found in John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, Pleasant Grove Recreation Dept. G.A.B. (Get a Break) will be held from 8 to 1 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Community Center. This is a Ladies Night Out event. Participants may bring a project to work on watch videos or just spend the evening gabbing. There will be a bread making class offered for $5. CERT class In American Fork A CERT class will be held tonight from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the American Fork Senior Citizen Center, 54. E. Main Street, American Fork. There is an equipment charge of $30 for all new students. RSVP Kenneth at 493-9029 to attend. Tonight's subject will be a drill. North Utah Valley Disaster Readiness This group, focusing on the 3-Step program, will meet the first Thursday of each month starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The evening will include guest speakers, an introduction intro-duction to 3-Steps for first-timers, and Q&A sessions for those who have attended a previous meeting. Meetings are held in the American Fork Senior Citizen Center, 54 E. Main St., American Fork. Everyone is welcome wel-come to attend. Fireman's Breakfast This annual event will begin at 6 a.m. and last until 1 1 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Fire Station. History Tour The Historic Preservation Commission will host a brief tour of three historical sights, including the new fire cart house, the downtown clock and another historic marker near the new Community Credit Union. The event begins at 2 p.m. in Pioneer Park. Republican Women Utah County Republican Women will hear a legislative report from Utah County state senators today at 7 4 I ! i I m 1 1 1 M The new principal taught at the junior high school level in the Granite District. He was an assistant principal prin-cipal at Jefferson Jr. High before applying for the internship at Pleasant Grove High School. He loved working at Pleasant Grove High School and is sad about leaving the school but he will still stay a Viking. He will work with a lot of the same people that he got to know at the high school. His philosophy is to center cen-ter on the kids. They have specific needs, it is different for elementary, junior high and high school. In the junior jun-ior high it should be all I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." He noted the move to the new building was in November. Three students spoke at the ceremony, Cacey Farnsworth spoke on "I Am the Way," Kamilie Wilkins message was, "I Am the Truth," and Branden Hunsaker spoke on "I Am the Life." The Seminary principal, Brother Young, expressed his love for the Seminary, lives change because of the Seminary program, he is proud of the students and what they bring to the class. The faculty, Brother Young, Brother Taylor and Brother Griffiths encourage the stu noon in the Provo city council chamber, 351 Center Street, Provo, starting at noon, A light lunch will served and visitors are welcome. Senators expected to address the group include John L. Valentine, Parley G. Hellewell, BillWright, and Curtis Bramble. This is the group's last meeting until next Setember. Pleasant Grove City There will be a city council work session meeting beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the community development conference room, 86 W. 200 South. Community Scout Troop Come and join the new Community Boy Scout Troop. Alpine Board of Education The Alpine School Board meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the District offices, 575 N. 100 East, American Fork. Kangaroo Hop This orientation and tour of the labor and delivery area and the hospital nursery is offered for mothers-to-be and siblings of the new arrival. He shares Principal Clark's philosophy on knowing know-ing and focusing on kids. Everyone will miss Principal Clark as he moves on as Principal at Mountain View High School. Edman lives in American Fork with his wife and three sons, age six, three and one year old. President Barrington told the audience the building build-ing exists to guide our children chil-dren to return to our Heavenly Father. President Hinckley's goal is for every youth to attend Seminary. President Barrington offered the dedicatory prayer. The choir sang the closing number with the congregation joining in singing, "I Believe In Christ." The benediction was offered by Megan Payne. And there couldn't be a principal Blaine Edman pg Library overdue fines The Pleasant Grove Library Board raised overdue over-due fines last Thursday. The new fee for an overdue over-due book will be raised from five cents a day to 10 cents a day to a maximum of $10 per item, in line with other libraries in the area. Also, if an overdue book was on hold for someone else the fee will be $1 the first day it was late and 25 cents every day thereafter. Video overdue fines were also raised from 50 cents a day to $1 a day to a maximum maxi-mum of $25. A replacement fee for lost items was also added, with the new fees being the cost of the item plus a $10 processing pro-cessing fee.
