Based on these and other experiences living in the deep South, Nellie wrote a manuscript, which became a best selling book and American classic. Several years later, this novel was adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergei, and in March and April, the Villa Playhouse Theatre will be bringing Harper Lee's story to life. Directed by Kathleen Nutt, this classic drama will be presented at the Villa Playhouse Theatre each Friday, Saturday and Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. March 17 through April 22. The theatre is located at 254 S. Main Street, Springville. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is the story of young Scout (Madelyn Tucker), her older brother Gem (James Jackson) and her attorney father Atticus Finch (Bill Brown). Set in 1935 Alabama at a time when racial intolerance was high and blacks and whites were segregated, seg-regated, a black man, Tom Robinson (Keith Hamilton), is falsely accused of rape by a white woman named Mayella (Meighan Page). Atticus is hired to defend Tom, which leads to persecution in the town of those who are wanting racial equality by those who are racially prejudice. "To Kill a Mockingbird" examines the moral and ethical ways in which various individuals deal with the issues of racism, child and spouse abuse, and snobbery. Tickets for "To Kill a Mockingbird" Mocking-bird" are $8 general admission, $7 senior citizens & students, $6 children 3 to 1 1 and $35 for a family fam-ily pass. Children under 3 are not admitted.
