Awards given at Utah Press Association convention Several, traditional special awards were given during the 107 annual convention of Utah Press Association held Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) in St. George, Utah. Esther Udail honored On Saturday, March 11, Esther Udall was honored at the Utah Youth Soccer Association Annual Genera! Meeting banquet as the Young Soccer Referee of the Year for the State of Utah. Esther was nominated by District Dis-trict III and her endorsement is as follows: Esther as been very active in her school and community activities activi-ties since she was young. She has served in numerous positions in the Girl scouts. She has been selected se-lected this year to attend an international in-ternational event in London, England En-gland this summer. She has helped with the Special Olympics several times and has been a leader in her local church group. She loves to sing and participate partici-pate in several choirs. She also enjoys playing the violin and the bass violin in orchestra. She ia active in lacrosse, track, swimming and both water and snow skiing. But, her most favorite favor-ite thing and her first love is soccer. soc-cer. She has played competition soccer for many years. She has three varsity letters, a local tournament tour-nament MVP award and a high ODP team for three years. She has a CPA of 3.86 at Orem High School. Esther decided to help out in another capacity in the game of soccer three years ago, when she decided to become a certified referee. ref-eree. Gary Herbert seeks Utah County Commissioner Gary R Herbert announced at a recent press conference that he is seeing reelection this year for a third term. Helping him in the announcement were Mayors, State Legislators, County elected officials, Congressman Chris Cannon Can-non and many local business and community leaders. In the press conference, attended at-tended by nearly 100 people and held in the rotunda of the Historic His-toric Utah County Courthouse, several speakers mentioned reasons rea-sons for their support and why Mr. Herbert should be reelected to office. Highland City Mayor Jess Adamson, who is the chairman of the Utah County Council of Governments, Gov-ernments, mentioned that Commissioner Com-missioner Herbert has the endorsement en-dorsement of 23 our 23 county mayors. "It is unusual for us as mayors to all agree on anything," he said. "For all of us to be endorsing Gary is a remarkable thing and says a lot about his leadership. State Senator John Valentine mentioned the commissioner's work with the state during the legislative session as vital to Utah County's interest. "He has been very good at finding find-ing solutions to problems that everybody can agree with," he said., "The county boundary bill this past session is a good example. ex-ample.
