World Imports held an open house on Friday, February 11, World Imports is located at 250 West Center Street, 108 in Provo. elp build PACE (Provo Advancing Character Char-acter Excellence) is looking for volunteers to help with their Celebration Cel-ebration of Character Conference being held on March 18. "The purpose of the conference is to promote good character among our youth and provide examples ex-amples that they can model to others," said Jolene Bunnel, USU Extension 4-H youth agent "Pace is trying to unify the entire community com-munity on this concept of rood character. As a volunteer, you can be a role model for these kids by showing them what service is all about" The theme of the PACE conference confer-ence is "Born to Excel." High school students from both Provo and Timpview will be involved in workshops focusing on skills including in-cluding developing responsibility, being trustworthy and serving effectively. Entertainment will be provided by Brigham Young University's Folk ensemble, Timpview High and Provo High School. PACE, Provo's character education edu-cation initiative, promotes a partnership part-nership between families, schools, churches, government businesses and other community organizations. This partnership ; was formed to help the people of Provo understand and practice Principles focused on building ! character. .... Additional volunteer opportunities opportu-nities are available throughout Utah County. Some of these are listed below. Answer phones for the Crisis Cri-sis Line. Crisis Line of Utah County needs mature volunteers to answer hotline calls from people in crisis. Volunteers will . provide a listening ear to people who call Crisis Line for help with serious problems. Volunteers may set their own schedules but are asked to commit to a three or four-hour block each week. At the present time, Crisis Line especially espe-cially needs volunteers. Volunteers Volun-teers must be at least 18 years old and will need to complete 6 hours of training before answering phone lines. A four-month commitment com-mitment is preferred, but arrangements ar-rangements will be made for students stu-dents or others who may not be available for four months at a time. Teach grade school students stu-dents civic responsibility. Kids Voting Utah is looking for volunteers to help teach students about the importance of civic responsibility and electoral process. The goal of Kids Voting Utah is to increase civic participation Jand pride, s 1 I 4 r . f P g character well as increase knowledge of the electoral process. Volunteers will work with youth to help them through the voting process. Volunteers Vol-unteers must be at least 16 years old and schedules are flexible. Assist new parents in Utah County. Individuals who have experience in parenting, child development, health care or family fam-ily therapy are encouraged to share their skills as Welcome Baby home visitors in the Utah County Success by Six program. Home visitor volunteers will partner part-ner with Utah County health nurses and make hospital visits to new parents following the birth of their baby. Volunteers will deliver de-liver information about community commu-nity resources, parenting and child development. Volunteers are also needed to help assemble materials and with various office tasks. Training is required for all home visitor volunteers prior to their home visits.
