Mountain View High School is a participant in the Family Community Com-munity and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA), a nationwide club formerly known as the Future Fu-ture Homemakers of America (FHA). While the name of the club has changed, the goals, requirements and opportunities have not Club members are still dedicated to giving service to school, club, community, citizens and all who are in need. One of the main reasons rea-sons for the name change was that more and more boys saw the service opportunities available in this club and wanted to be a part of them. While there is nothing to stop boys from being part of the homernaking process, the name didn't really fit the expanding expand-ing purposes of the club. The club can be found in most high schools around the nation and each chapter of the club participates par-ticipates in the nationwide 'Star Event" activity. This activity begins with the chapters splitting their members into groups with each unit choosing choos-ing a category to compete under. The group then follows through with a project and prepares a presentation pre-sentation that is judged against other projects. Among the categories catego-ries to choose from are Skills for Life, Focus on Children, Chapter Services and others. As their project, Kayla Nielsen and Angela All'man chose to teach a course in creating flower arrangements ar-rangements in the technology, life and career classes at Lakeridge Junior High. The two are taking all the of the arrangements put together in the class to local hos-: hos-: pitals to give them to the people who might not have family and friends in the area who are able to visit them. They said that they hope the students not only got some good lifelong, useful skills, but that they might also have picked up a desire to do service after seeing some of the things that can be done. Nielsen and Alhnan wish to encourage students at Mountain View, as well as those at Orem and Tisnpariogoa, to join FCCLA and take the opportunity to be of service in many different ways. : POOR |
