The bride-to-be is a graduate of Orem High School, where she Barbershop society elects new officers for 1996 The Utah Valley Skyline Chorus recently elected their leaders for the calendar year 1996. They have just returned from the Chapter Operations Training Seminar (COTS) held in Denver and sponsored by the Rocky Mountain District (RMD). President for the new year is Bart Buell. He and his wife, Thea, and three children live in Pleasant Grove. Bart was born in Long Island, New York, where he was greatly influenced by his family in the love of four-part four-part harmony style singing; His father sang in a quartet, "The Mormonaires". Buell attended high school at St. Andrews Episcopal Parrish, then after graduating attended BYU for three years. He met Thea at the "Guys and Gals" square dancing club in Provo. He plays the accordian and has performed frequently the past ten years. He is presently Scoutmaster Scout-master in his ward. Winning a full-year scholarship scholar-ship and many other prizes, Tamara Wirthington, a sophomore majoring in music therapy from Pleasant Grove, Utah, is the new Miss UVSC. Winning this title qualifies Wirthington Wir-thington to represent UVSC at the Miss Utah Pageant. "The major events that set Tamara apart from the other contestants was her display of talent in playing the marimba and her service project for the community," said Carolyn Johnson, coordinator of student programs. Family Support and Treatment Center held a ribbon cutting and open house Friday, November 17, to celebrate the completion of the facility. The center is located at 1255 North 1200 West in Orem, and serves children and families from throughout the county. A United Way agency, the Family Support and Treatment Center (FSTC) provides crisis care for children and works to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect. The center also addresses ad-dresses other personal and family fami-ly issues. Children in crisis situations are allowed to be left with caring individuals at the nursery. Children are accepted only from the parent or legal guardian and may stay up to 72 hours per visit. On average, 20 children visit the center each day. FSTC moved from Provo to the larger, more suitable facility in Orem last year. The new, homelike center has enabled Utah Valley's children to be better bet-ter served by the caring volunteers volun-teers and staff. The facility was purchased through an anonymous $280,000 donation to the center through United Way of Utah County. The Family Fami-ly Support and Treatment Center Cen-ter has been serving the community com-munity since 1984. Services and activities offered of-fered at the center in addition to the crisis respite nursery include in-clude parenting groups and classes, clas-ses, school prevention presentations, presenta-tions, individual and family therapy, group therapy, and support groups.
