Park City thought playing play-ing on the friendly confines of their own grass would help turn around their soccer problems. Maybe not. Wednesday, on their home field, the Miners watched a 1-0 lead evaporate as they were eventually overwhelmed by Lehi, 2-1. The devastating loss dropped the team to 2-4 in Region. 4-5 overall, and more importantly, out of the race for the Region 10 title. "The kids just have to re-focus," re-focus," said head coach Mike Guetschow. "Region 10 is not a possibility anymore. As the team continues to grind through the remainder of the regular season schedule, Pretorius wants to guard against complacency by spicing up the team practice. Instead of standard stan-dard drills, the team will be subjected sub-jected to tough physical workouts work-outs and inter-squad matches to stay sharp. "Even the Chicago Bulls, considered con-sidered by some to have the greatest team in history, lost some games, so I want to make sure we maintain our edge," Pretorius continued. With the prospect of winning the state championship on the line, Pretorius is planning to use completely unconventional motivational moti-vational tactics. He wants his guys to lose. "We will invite top men's players play-ers from the e-ea to play against the team before they compete at the state tournament, he said. "The attempt will be to humble them just to sharpen them up a bit." They need to find a challenge somewhere. Fatigue and key injuries down the stretch conspired to beat the Miners however. Shortly after the scramble in front of Lehi's net. the Miners found themselves on their heels. Lehi evened the game at one w hen a shot deflected off a defender and skipped past Park City's Cody Case in goal. The top-five schools are selected from each region for the 16-team competition. Currently. Park City-is City-is sitting in fourth place. "It's an interesting season because if you look at the record were not doing very well," lamented Guetschow. "But we've been in every game. We could have just as easily been 8-1 and had everyone telling us how great we were instead of 4-5. wondering if we're any good at all."
