Show Wednesday, October 22, 1997 The Park Record B-9 Park Record Activities Guide Watch qualifying rounds for the 1 998 Winter Olympics at the Winter Sports Park by Shawn Stinson RECORD GUEST WRITER It's hard to imagine that just one short month from now the world's elite alpine skiers from around the world will be competing compet-ing in yet another installment of Park City's very own America's Opening World Cup Races, the first glimpse of those that will be competing for gold at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Winter is on the way and there are many signs that it's time to dust off the stored winter equipment (or break down and buy the new hear you've been drooling over since last spring). First and foremost is the fact The Park City Historical Society and Museum will be hosting their annual Dungeon Party on Friday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. This membership drive and unveiling of new exhibits will be celebrated by food, drink and tales of old Park City. For more information call the museum at 645-5135. that right in our own backyard, the United States' finest bobsled and luge athletes are doing some early training on what is arguably the fastest and most technical course in the world at the Utah Winter Sports Park. This pre-sea-son training will allow our athletes ath-letes to get some very important ice time prior to the opening competitions leading up to the Olympics, hopefully giving them an edge over the rest of the world's top teams. If you have not gone out to the Sports Park to check out any world-class training or competition, don't miss this opportunity. These will be the same drivers, pushers and lugers you'll see on CBS this February, perhaps even bringing home an Olympic medal. The bob and luge teams are training at the Sports Park now through Oct. 31. For more information on when the teams are on the ice and the best time to catch a glimpse of these world-class athletes, ath-letes, call the Sports Park at 658-4200. 658-4200. They'd love to see some local support of our U.S. athletes! In addition to the early season training of our Olympic-bound bob and luge teams, the Sports Park has a winter full of events and activities for everyone to participate in, from the public nordic jumping program to bobsled bob-sled rides to the ever-popular "ice rocket" rides. It truly is a fantastic facility, one every Parkite and visitor should plan to take advantage of. After all, it's not like every resort town has such a state-of-the-art facility at its disposal. Changing gears a bit, the Park City Historical Society is hosting its annual membership drive this Friday, Oct. 24, at the Museum, 528 Main Street, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The guest of honor will be none other than Park City's Silver Queen, who will be on hand to explain just what she's been doing for the past 100 or so years, besides rattling chains throughout Park City. Plan to join Susanna for drinks and goodies a the annual Dungeon Party, support our town's Historical Society and check out the new exhibits. For more information, infor-mation, call the wonderful people peo-ple at the Museum, 645-5135. Finally, a few activities going on this weekend that should prove quite fun. First, the Norwegian School of Nature Life is hosting its annual Halloween Bash this Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. This party, always a great time, will once again be at Steeps with music by the Detonators, a silent auction and costume contest. con-test. The price is just $12 in advance or $15 at the door. You can get more details on this party by calling 649-5322. Also this weekend is the "Women of the West Wasatch Mountain Challenge" rugby tournament at City Park, Saturday and Sunday. Call 647-9118 for information on the tournament and times of the matches.
