Show A-4 The Park Record Wednesday, October 22, 1997 fi HtUVHK Willi 'Wft 10 I will work to deal with the CONCERNS AND PROBLEMS of citizens, businesses, and community groups and to establish a Department of Community Affairs directly under the supervision of the City Council. 9 I will work to create the office of Ombudsman to replace the $220,0000 Office of Public Affairs. Public Relations should be the Mayor's responsibility. 8 I believe proposals to spend huge sums of money on Olympic related projects pro-jects need to be fully revealed to the public - no more surprises! I will insist on a voter referendum before the City spends $6 to $12 million for a new parking structure. 7 I will present a viable transportation and parking alternative plan developed devel-oped with CITIZEN INPUT for all of Park City with the intent of making Main St. a pedestrian mall. City takeover of State highways inside the City should be carefully studied as one way of controlling construction traffic into Bonanza Rats and Flagstaff. 6 I will work to reorganize The Community Development Department and simplify the Land Management Code to speed up the processing of development develop-ment applications. NO more 3 year marathons for anyone! 5 I believe that a Community Recreation Center including an ice rink, skateboard facility, and a teen center ( planned and run by teens ) is more important than an Olympic Tram, Intermodal transportation center or Public Safety Facility. 4 I believe paying over $400,000 to a Seattle company to enforce our parking park-ing regulations is fiscally wasteful and irresponsible. We should hire meter people, enlarge our police department, create a visible foot patrol presence in our business districts, and provide more enforcement of our speeding laws. 3 I believe that spending $275,000 to renovate the meeting room of City Hall, $23,000 on a European Olympic junket, and $20,000 on a "design char-rette" char-rette" reflects the misplaced priorities of the Council and our government. 2 I will work to assure that Old Town RDA revenues are used to upgrade the streets and infrastructure of the area as well as buy open space inside Old Town, not just outside of the City. 1 I will work to bring affordable UTA bus transportation to Park City from Salt Lake. If Alta, Snowbird, Sundance and Tooele have it, why not us? Mike Andrews... He WILL Represent You! Paid for by the Andrews Campaign, Frank Normile, Chairman P.O. And, although he has only been in his Snyderville Basin home for three weeks, the out-doorsman out-doorsman in Lynsky, 39, is, already feeling at home with both the area and the Park City Fire Service District. Noting there are definite differences dif-ferences between Park City and Southern California terrain, Lynsky is also quick to point out the similarities. With 15 years of wildfire, hazardous materials, and mass-casualty experience, Lynsky said, he hopes to help the Park City Fire Service District meet the varying terrain challenges of Park City and the Snyderville Basin. In Redlands, Lynsky said, he gained experience working in a "wildlandurban interface" area a situation similar to Summit County's combination of densely populated, more urban, areas and its decidedly rural outlying out-lying areas. Additionally, Lynsky said, he was a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department that was most closely associated with and trained to handle the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. Lynsky, who is a paramedic with an associate's degree in fire science and a bachelor's degree in public administration, was already a captain in Redlands before he took the Park City captain's cap-tain's examination this past summer, sum-mer, but decided the move to Utah would give him more opportunity oppor-tunity to pursue outdoor activities. activi-ties. ADJOURN Posted: October 20, 1997 in the mountains of California, one of his biggest challenges will be fighting fire in the snow a definite first for this California native. Capt. Mark Billmire brings Ogden ski resort experience to Park City area After working in the vicinity of the Snowbasin and Powder Mountain ski areas, Captain Mark Billmire is ready to apply his paramedic and back-country experience to Summit County's three ski areas. Billmire, 41, left his captain's position after 16 years with the Ogden Fire Department to join the Park City Fire Service District two months ago, and intends to move his two young children, TJ and Ethan, and his wife, Valerie, to Summit County, where he already has some family. One of the aspects of Park City's fire district that attracted Billmire to his new job, he said, is the fact that Park City is a special service district and, therefore, controls its own destiny. "The (Park City) Fire District is its own entity," Billmire said. "They don't have the bureaucrat ic red tape other districts have to go through." Because Park City makes it possible for its employees to become more involved and have more control in the day-to-day workings of the district, the employees can take more pride in their positions, Billmire said. He added that, with experience experi-ence creating a combined engineambulance vehicle during his time in Ogden, Billmire hopes to offer his experience in the operations of Park City's "EMS side." He added that, while in Ogden, he was in charge of certification certi-fication of the department's EMTs and paramedics. Even with a substantial background back-ground in medical emergencies, Billmire said, devastating car accidents that involve families hit closest to home, especially if they involve children close in age to his two sons. In addition to the medical knowledge his job demands, Billmire said, it is the physicality of firefighting that keeps Billmire, a former Weber State football athlete, in the game. Sheriff's Report y vmmmmm&srtwiit8M88 mmmmmwmmmimWm mmmmmmmmim Deputies called out to vehicular thefts On Monday, Oct. 13 at a 6:05 p.m. a Peoa resident reported to Summit County Sheriff's Dispatch that his blue Honda was stolen from the front of his residence. The vehicle is worth about $400, and deputies found no leads or evidence at the time of the report. At 6:50 p.m., a trespassing incident inci-dent was reported in the Park City area by a woman who said her son had entered her home without authorization while she was at work. The complainant said her son also harassed and threatened her two younger sons while in the residence. Responding officers contacted the son and advised him he was not welcome in the home. Officers also told the complainant that, because the suspect was permitted per-mitted to enter the home at certain cer-tain times, it would be difficult to prosecute trespass charges against him. On Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 3:24 p.m. dispatch received a reckless driving complaint from a woman in the North Summit area, who said a vehicle swerved toward her two young sons and barely missed hitting them while they crossed the street. The suspect was contacted con-tacted and denied the accusations, however, the complainant said she wished to see charges filed. The case was then referred to the county attorney. On Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 9:20 a.m., a Heber City caller reported that items were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in the Park City area. The complainant reported about $340 worth of hardware was stolen from a toolbox. tool-box. There were no signs of forced entry. On Friday, Oct. 17 at 9:15 p.m., a North Summit caller advised dispatch dis-patch that a dog had jumped on the hood of his vehicle and scratched it while he was parked outside an area market. The suspect sus-pect dog's owner gave the complainant com-plainant money to clean mud off the vehicle, however, once the mud was removed the scratches were discovered. The complainant com-plainant further noted he did not want to confront the dog's owner again, but said he would like the responding officer to help determine deter-mine how to get the scratches fixed and paid for. The officer agreed to consult the county attorney attor-ney and further action is pending. Municipal elections will be held throughout the county on Nov. 4.
