It was the 100th day of School at Mapleton Elementary. He could see all the children walking through the big 100 at the front door. Balloons and posters were brightly inviting everyone to join in the fun. Daxton was with his teacher Mrs. Daniels. They stopped short at the front door fearing that his chair wouldn't make it through the 100. "No problem Daxton with a little help we'll get you through that big "0". First we need a picture of that delightful smile of yours!" said the teachers. As you can see in this picture his beautiful smile lite up the entire school! Happy 100th day Everyone! - h ' 3 -X. University of Warwick researchers found four and five year olds whose families kept animals had attendance levels 18 higher than their peers without pets. Health psychologist Dr. June McNichoIas said dogs, cats, fish, birds and rodents were among the creatures owned by the children surveyed. She said the theory was that pets'helped boost children's immune im-mune systems. Dr. McNichoIas said children's health was not improved im-proved by any particular type of pet. "It is more to do with just owning a pet and taking care of it, and having It live in the same house as you." Researchers monitored 265 children aged five to 11 years from three schools. Dr. McNichoIas said previous research had shown children whose families fami-lies kept pets were less likely to have asthma or allergies. al-lergies. "The underlying theory is that the immune system develops in relation to what it is exposed to," she said.
