Show Thursday, February 8, 2007 SPRINGVILLE HERALD City moves forward with new buildings Martin Conover SPRINGVILLE HERALD After a long process over several months, Springville City chose Cooper Roberts, Simonsen for architectural services to build police, ambulance, fire, library and city hall buildings. The company will be paid around $60,000 for these services. This decision was made at the Tuesday meeting of the city council. The city has close to $9 million saved for the construction of these facilities. In other business, the council passed a resolution to waive city fees to families fami-lies whose main providers are on active duty with the military. For those who feel they might qualify for these fee waivers, they should contact the city office. The city also updated most of their codes to conform con-form with new federal and state standards for building and remodeling. The electric department was also given permission to purchase a transformer from Murray City, which can be used in a new substation sub-station planed for the west fields. The transformer is less than five years old and has not been used to capacity ca-pacity by Murray City. It should be good for at least 50 years the power department depart-ment said. Cost of the transformer is about $500,000, and should it be purchased new, would cost over $750,000 on the market and take about a year for delivery. The power department has money in it's budget for the purchase. The transformer also comes with several features such as cooling and noise reduction equipment, equip-ment, which make the purchase pur-chase an even better value. The department will take delivery this month of the new transformer and store it for use in the next couple of years. The 25-megawatt . transformer was manufactured manufac-tured in 2001. Glenn Alleman, Nancy Calkins, Jeff Mills and Greg Nolte were appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council to serve on the Landmarks Preservation Preser-vation Commission, and Bruce Bennett and Von Alleman Al-leman were reappointed to that commission. Teddy Anderson was f also reappointed to the Arts Commission. Members of the Springville Spring-ville High School Swim Team met with the council to express their concern over the condition of the pool and the prospects of constructing a new facility. The council advised them to meet with the Nebo School District Board and express to them their concerns con-cerns and ask them for help in the construction of a new pool facility. Both the Springville High School and Spanish Fork High School swim teams use the Springville City facility.
