Just ask any student in Miss Winkel's first grade class at Art City School and they can probably tell you now, thanks to Dr. Chamberlain taking the time out of his day. He taught them all the ins and outs of caring for your pearly whites. I i 1 T77Z7- Under the direction of teachers. Sheila Robbins, Shelley Graves, Mike Duncan and Jamie Curran, the fourth grade students at Sage Creek Elementary held a spectacular Invention Convention on Wednesday, Jan. 31. During the convention creative piggy banks, catapults, games, recipes, science demonstrations, useful gadgets and many more handy items were displayed and demonstrated to Sage Creek students and parents. The convention marks the conclusion of the unit where-in students learned about famous inventors, what it takes to be an inventor and some inventions that originated because someone made a mistake. Broadcasters Broad-casters and journalists use and reuse inspiring, articulate ar-ticulate phrases until they become cliche. It's hard to say anything about a sports team that hasn't already al-ready been said to death And yet, with all these words and phrases to choose from, none of them seem good enough to describe de-scribe our Mapleton Mus- tangs. Mapleton Junior High began its first school year with a lot of hope and a little lit-tle uncertainty. The school began defining its identity in a new community, he students began defining their identity in a new school, and many were unsure un-sure what to expect. This was true of the sports program as well, but coaches and players put their heart and soul into getting MJHS sports out of the gate and running. run-ning. Mapleton Junior's first year is now more than half way over, and the students and faculty already al-ready have memories that will last through the life of the school. Mapleton burst onto the scene with a massive cross-country team. Seventy-two Mapleton Jr. students stu-dents joined the team and dominated the running field. The boys' team won 1st in the district, earning a perfect score twice during the season. The girls' team took 2nd in the district with every team member improving their score. Every runner on the team ended the season with more skill, ability, and character than when they began. The MJHS tennis and golf teams held their own against teams who had years of experience. The Mapleton Jr. tennis team tied for 1st in the district, and the golf team earned 3rd place in their first season sea-son ever. These two teams helped MJHS make its mark this year. And finally, as the bas-ketbaU bas-ketbaU season draws to a close, the boy's and girl's basketball teams have earned the respect of fans and rivals. The boys and girls have stood up to bigger, big-ger, more experienced teams and have handled themselves with class. The girls', team has fought hard for their eight wins. They went after each basket fiercely and never gave one up easily. The MJHS boys' basketball basket-ball team has shown the type of sportsmanship that is rarely seen in today's sports teams. MJHS hosted host-ed their rivals, Springville Junior High, twice this season. At the end of the first game, the Springville team was invited into the school's faculty room to share pizza with the Mustangs. Mus-tangs. This kind of character has defined the MJHS boys' basketball team as they have pushed themselves them-selves to the limit. They have faced tough odds, and although their record may not earn them a district trophy, their efforts this year have cleared the way for future MJHS teams. A list of their accomplishments accom-plishments cannot paint an accurate picture of the students stu-dents who have blazed the trail for this school. Words are not enough. The only way to understand is to known them. And so, a message to these students who have opened doors for those to come: There are some who overlook your hard work. They will never understand. under-stand. There are others, many others, who have looked into your heart They will remember you.
