That's what we all think of when someone mentions Future Farmers of America. But the truth is FFA members actually drink milk and decide de-cide what is making it taste weird, and they even get graded on it. Now-a-days, unlike Napoleon Na-poleon Dynamite's day and age, FFA Chapters compete com-pete against one another in specialized speaking events too. The Springville FFA Chapter competed with other FFA Chapters in Nebo School District last Thursday, Feb. 1. The events that members compete in at the area contest con-test are: Creed Speaking, Prepared Speaking, Extemporaneous Extem-poraneous Speaking, and Parliamentary Procedure. This year SHS competed in Creed and Extemporaneous, Extemporane-ous, sending three students to Payson High School. The creed contest is where students recite the FFA Creed written by E.M. Tiffany. Tiffa-ny. This year's creed speakers speak-ers were Whitney Schof ield, and Chris Cook. Whitney was given an honorable mention in fourth place, and Chris took first place and will represent Springville at FFA State Convention in Logan, Lo-gan, in March. Extemporaneous is a difficult dif-ficult competition where the competitors are allowed to bring one hundred pages pag-es of agriculture-related research, paper, and a pen. They are "given a topic and have a half-an-hour to craft a speech, and then give the speech to four judges and an audience. No pressure. c Computer Concepts, Nick Roylance, 4th Place; Business Busi-ness Ethics, Ryan Bernal, Mitch Christensen, 3rd Place, Breanna Ketler Networking Concepts, Michael Lingwall, 3rd Place; Introduction to Business, Busi-ness, Michael Nugent, 4thPlace; Introduction to Business, Jeremy Van Leu-ven, Leu-ven, 5th Place; C Programming, Pro-gramming, Stephen Pratt, 5th Place; Economics, Nick Roylance, 5th Place.
