Show V K3t698iOH8 B1 Wednesday, April !;: 3 j !' J - ' - This was the condition of all the ponds at the golf course - silted over, Pictured is what is known as the east pond in the middle of the 12th By Kevin Ashby Express Publisher Preparing a golf course for spring tee-offs is hard enough work. And this year at Dina-land Dina-land Golf crews are taking on the normal turf problems plus a construction project to improve im-prove the ponds at the course. A new golf pro heads up activities at Dinaland this year. Todd Myer was hired away from Mountain View Golf Course in Salt Lake.He brings to the table years of experience in operational procedures as well as planning and scheduling schedul-ing various golf functions. .- He is joined by Mike Behle, also of Salt Lake, as Todd's first assistant. Between the two there will be lessons available avail-able as well as an emphasis on youth golf opportunities with clinics and seminars. Todd's programs in Salt Lake have won the Junior Golf League" award several times and he wants to bring that same type of experience to the youth in the Vernal area. But a busy calendar at the golf course is just the start. Even more is happening on the fairways and greens. Deep snow throughout the winter has help protect the fairways and greens, which are in excellent condition for this time of the year. Golf course superintendent Chad Shaffer said crews put into effect fall procedures and fertilizations programs last year that proved to be very effective for the fairways fair-ways and greens this spring. "It's the winter winds that are so bad for the turf here and this year we had snow for almost all the winter, which was good," explained Shaffer. He said crews started cutting grass this week. Plenty of tree trimming in the winter season also improved im-proved the course. Effective tree trimming maximizes air movement as well as sun penetration pen-etration for a healthier turf. "What we are doing will set us up for the future," said SEE GOLF COURSE on B5 The pond lining came in 1 50 feet about 1000 pounds.
