"It's kind of a pet peeve of mine," the chief admitted about people parking in fire zones. Jensen said he spotted the illegally il-legally parked car in front of Wal-Mart Wal-Mart last Tuesday and started to write a citation when 35-year-old Valerie Jacobo emerged from the store. After running Jacobo 's information through dispatch, the chief said he learned she had an outstanding Vernal Justice Court warrant for $2,500 and placed her under arrest. During a search of the woman's wom-an's car after her arrest, Jensen said he found about 10 grams of cocaine, five grams of meth-amphetamine, meth-amphetamine, some marijuana, drug scales and other drug paraphernalia. para-phernalia. Also in the car were Jacobo's children, ages 5 and 17. Jensen said a search of the 17-year-old turned up small quantities of meth and marijuana. mari-juana. The teen was taken to the Split Mountain Youth Detention Deten-tion Center. The 5-year-old was turned over to a caseworker from the state Division of Child and Family Services. Jacobo was booked into the Uintah County Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent in-tent to distribute, possession of marijuana, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession posses-sion of drug paraphernalia, and open container. She had not been charged formally at press time. Ft. Duchesne man charged with rape A27-year-oldmanwascharged last week with raping a woman in his home on Whiterocks Road. Uintah County Sheriff's Deputy Randy Nakai, in a probable prob-able cause statement, said he was dispatched to the home on March 28 to deal with a man threatening to commit suicide. . Nakai said he entered the home to find Cory Don Sweat lying on a bed with a knife on his chest. . Sweat .Qpjnplied.,with Nakaijs orders tot put the i knife , down and was arrested 6n suspicion of intoxication. Nakai said he then spoke with the woman at the home who had called dispatch and was told that Sweat had raped her. The woman allowed the deputy to photograph bruises on her legs that she said were the result of the alleged attack, at-tack, according to the probable cause statement. Nakai said he notified a sheriffs detective of the woman's allegations while he was driving to the Uintah County Jail with Sweat. The detective interviewed Sweat, who allegedly said that the woman refused his sexual advances and he "took it anyway." any-way." Sweat posted a $5,000 bond. He is due to make his first court appearance on April 21. Heroin trafficker, state reach deal A man caught with 33 balloons of heroin in his car in November has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge. Matthew Lucas Mecham, 22, pleaded guilty last Monday to third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance. He had originally faced a second-degree felony drug charge. Duchesne County sheriffs deputies were looking for Mecham Me-cham on Nov. 21 in connection with a harassment complaint when they found him and another an-other man inside a car in the parking lot of the LDS church in Mountain Home. The deputies spotted evidence of heroin use inside the car and arrested the men. During a search of Mecham's car following his arrest, deputies found 33 balloons of heroin in the driver's door. Mecham took responsibility for the drugs. The man arrested with Mecham Me-cham pleaded guilty in January to second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance. Under an agreement with prosecutors, the charges in that case will be dismissed if the man avoids legal trouble for the next three years and pays $1,000 in court fees. Mecham, who undergoing in-patient drug treatment at a facility in Sanpete County, is due back in court on June 23 for sentencing. He could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Man enters plea in child sex case A 20-year-old Duchesne man has pleaded guilty to a-xeduaed charge, in, the sexuaLabuse.of,a 5-year-old girl. Timothy Allen Dawson was babysitting the victim during a break from his training at a Job Corps facility. He pleaded guilty last Monday to attempted sex abuse of a child, a third-degree felony, under a plea deal with the Duchesne County Attorney's Office. Dawson was originally charged with aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. According to court records, the victim told her mother that Dawson had touched her below the waist, under her clothes while he was watching her and her brother in November. The girl also told investigators during a Children's Justice Center interview inter-view that she wanted Dawson to stop what he was doing, but he didn't until another adult arrived at the home. Dawson, who is "slow in comprehension" accordingto his attorney, corroborated the girl's statement and even wrote a letter let-ter of apology to her, a Duchesne County sheriffs detective said. Dawson is due back in court on July 7 for sentencing, when he faces up to five years in prison. Firefighters dowse farmer's field fire The Uintah County-Vernal City Fire Department responded to a field fire March 30 after an agricultural burn got out of control. While en route to the fire, at approximately 300 North and 700 East, firefighters learned that the flames were not threatening threat-ening structures. They proceeded to the scene and helped the property prop-erty owner contain the blaze. Jeremy Raymond, executive director for Uintah Fire Suppression Suppres-sion Special Service District said the fire started as a controlled burn, but winds picked up in the early afternoon and carried flames to the east and onto a neighbor's property. Raymond said with some water wa-ter and a few shqvels, fire crews kept the flames from reaching a stand of Russian olive trees. "With the wind there, it got a little bit scary," he said, adding that the smoke and spreading flames caused some concern among neighbors. There were no injuries or property . damage from the blaze. Raymond reminded property owners to follow burning restrictions restric-tions for both spring cleanup and agricultural burns. "He added that while there is ma clearing jndexi requirement for agricultural burning, fires should only be started when there is little or no wind. Once the wind picks up, Raymond said, flames should be extinguished. YOUR BANK.
