Show Wednesday, April Obituaries Douglas Hall Douglas Kent Hall, age 69 died suddenly Sunday, March 30, at his home in Albuquerque, N.M. Doug was born to Charles William(Peck) and Phyllis Hiatt Hall Dec. 12, 1938 in Vernal. Doug was raised in Vernal and graduated from Uintah High School. He attended Utah State University Uni-versity and University of Utah and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University in 1960. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing in 1953 from the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa, and then began teaching the craft. Doug was a gifted author and photographer. Some of his many accomplishments are 25 published books of non-fiction, which include his photographs, of various subjects, including rock and roll, rodeo, cowboys, prisons and bodybuilding including two books with Arnold Schwarzenegger. A retrospective ret-rospective exhibit of Hall's work, "Forty Images-Forth Years: 1968-2007" is on display in Santa Fe, N.M., and will remain through April as a tribute and memorial to him. Doug said in an interview in 2005 "The best thing about being be-ing an artist is being an artist. You know, people say, 'A picture is worth a thousand words.' But I always want to see a picture that just stops me, where I have no words. Those are the ones I wait for." He was born July 16, 1943 in Salt Lake City to Miles and Wanda Allred. Gordon was married to Sandra Lee Allred from 1972 to 1992 and they were blessed with four beautiful beauti-ful children, Kelly (Jeannine Kory (Heather), Mickey Allred and Laura Allred; and many grandchildren. He was married to Marilyn L. Allred, and is alsv survived by her sons. Jay and Todd; and daughters. Tani and Amanda. Gordon was preceded in death by sons, Mickey and Kelly; and his parents. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was employed by Kuhr Trucking and served with the Uintah County Search and Rescue. He felt most at heme on his horse in the mountains. Sherry Pilling On April 5, 200S. Sherry Lee Pilling passed away from cancer in Vernal. She was born Sept. 12, 195S. Sherry was a very beautiful, strong, kind, loving and spirtual person. Her sweet spirit was a great gift to all her family and friends. Her sen-ice to others in need is a testament of her love for others. She will always be loved and missed. Sherry was a devoted and loving mother, who is survived by children, Lucenda (Aaron) Woodard of Moab; Raymie (Joe) McKeon of Sacramento, Calif.; and Isaiah (Megan) Ward of Clearfield; along with grandchildren, grandchil-dren, Jace, Brendon, Kilee and Dayson. She is also survived by her sweet parents, Bert and Ber-nice Ber-nice Pilling of Vernal. Beckstead and Adelia Marie Quayle in Whitney, Idaho. He 'grew up in Whitney and gradu-f attnl in 1953 from Preston High' School. 1 le earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology at L'tahStateUniversity. He did graduate work at BYU and received national science foundation grants for study at Texas ASM and the University of Virginia where he also earned his Master's Degree. Roger taught science and English Eng-lish at the Vernal Junior High for many years, then became vice principal there. He was the principal at Central Elementary and later the principal at Davis Elementary when it opened. He ended his career in education as assistant superintendent over the elementary schools in the Uintah School District. le married Maralea Smith in t he Idaho Falls LDS Temple and t he couple had four children, Serena Ser-ena (Fred) Hayes of Heber, Brett (Carol) Beckstead of Tooele, Rebecca (Kirk) Fleetwood and Sheila Beckstead, all of Vernal. They have 15 grandchildren and two grandsons-in-law. He was preceded in death by parents, Hesy Ashton Beckstaed and Adelia Marie Quayle Beckstead; brothers, Hesy Quayle' Beckstead, Beck-stead, Ashton A. Beckstead; and son-in-law, Stacey Lee Fletcher. He is survived by sisters, Elaine B.Anderson of Garland; Amaryllis Amaryl-lis (Grant) Moser of Providence; Virginia (Farrell) Jensen of Springville; and Alyson Beckstead Beck-stead of Los Angeles, Calif. ) Roger was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including elders quorum president, high priest group leader, high counselor, stake Sunday school presidency and bishop. Roger and Maralea served a mission in Great Britain and a service mission at the Vernal Ver-nal Dry Pack Cannery. They also served in the Vernal Temple. Roger loved airplanes. He loved the solitude and space of flight, but was also willing to take someone flying anytime. He taught many students to fly, some of whom ended up making mak-ing careers out of aviation. He Clarence Jackson Clarence Edwin (Jack) Jackson Jack-son died at the age of 74 at his home surrounded by his family on March 24 from complications of cancer. JackwasbornMarch28, 1933 to Clarence Calloway Jackson and Velma Louise Tucker in Durango, Colo. He met Adell LaVonne (Terri) Morris in 1935 and married her Sept. 16, 1954. Jack joined the U.S. Army and served time in Germany, France and stateside. After his discharge, he went to work for El Paso Natural Gas, as an operator. He spent most of his years working work-ing for Northwest Pipeline and Williams Co. as a senior operator. opera-tor. He served on the Vernal Airport Board for many years. He also loved horses and trained them to drive and pull the carriages and sleighs he had restored. Roger's carriages were in many Vernal parades. His many other hobbies included reading, gardeningfarming, gar-deningfarming, motorcycles and later four-wheelers and collecting collect-ing guns - including restoring and antique Winchester rifle. He loved woodworking, hunting and fishing. He was always interested in the sciences -biology, chemistry, chemis-try, and geology. He loved history of any kind from World War Two to ghost towns, gold panning to space exploration. Roger loved life, learning, nature, and the beauty of God s creations. Funeral services were Friday, April 4 at the Maeser Stake Center under the direction of the Maeser 4th ward and conducted by Bishop Gary McClellan. The family prayer was given by Fred Hayes, the eulogy by Ashley Harrison with talks by Bishop Brett Beckstead and Bishop Kirk Fleetwood. Memories of Roger were shared by Serena Hayes, Rebecca Fleetwood and Sheila Beckstead with a musical medley med-ley sung by his grandchildren. Graveside services included a fly-over organized and flown by local pilots John Gardiner, Danny Knop, Jared Spencer, Fred Spencer Spen-cer and John Phillips. A bagpipe rendition of "Abide with Me' was played by Jim Langston and the dedication of the grave was given by Brett Beckstead. Roger was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. After retiring to Vernal in 1993, Jack was employed em-ployed by Wal-Mart as a door greeter. Jack was always the so cialite, and always had a friendh smile and a nice word to pass on to others. Jack is survived by sis ters, Darlene Scheffer, Witchita Kan.; Barbara Harper (John) Bullhead, Ariz.; Carolyn Landon Salt Lake City; brother, Russel Bostick, Vernal; five sons, Garj (Lynda) Fruita, Colo.; Michae (Paula), Bloomfield, N.M.; Damn (Belinda), Rangely, Colo.; Shan non (Natalie) Vernal; and Shant (Denise) Vernal. He also has 1( grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be April 10 ai 2 p.m. at the World Vision As sembly of God Church (444 W 400 North).
