Vernal youth wins regional Arbor Day poster contest Vernal City Mayor Leonard Hccncy has proclaimed this Friday, April 29, as Arbor Day in Vernal. His proclamation was signed last Wednesday at the urging of Central Elementary School's student council coun-cil led by president Tausha Smuin. Arbor Day was begun in 1872 by Ncbraskan J. Sterling Morton. h is an unofficial holiday observed in each of the SO states, usually on the last Friday in April. Central students plan a lunch lime ceremony at their school Friday. This year's clinic will Feature Miss Rodeo Utah, Jennifer Hawkes, along with the Roundup's 1993 royalty roy-alty and several guest speakers. The "Clinic in the Round" will have special sessions for girls ages 8 and up. The sessions will be geared for the various ages and will cover, modeling, speaking, impromptu im-promptu questions, photography, make up and general cleanliness, and horsemanship techniques. Young women entered in the various vari-ous queen competitions will find this clinic valuable. Jennifer was the first runner up to Miss Rodeo America winning many categories at the week long competition compe-tition in Las Vegas in December. The clinic will be Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. at the USU Education Center, 1680 West Highway 40 in room 207 B. Refreshments will be served. Girls ages 8 and up arc encouraged en-couraged to attend.
