The Union High School Class of 1971 enjoyed its senior sneak on the Green River. The one day trip began in the Island Park area and ended up in the Split Mountain area. People always gain unexpected visits into the cool water, but that is just part of the game call river running. runn-ing. Getting wet is part of the sport such as getting muddy occurs in mud rallies. The water can get wild at times ' and the rapids make the action fun and exciting. Sometimes big rapids give the riders a jolt and makes everyone all wet. Trips longer than one day force the river runner to camp out each night. Some long trips on the Green River start out just below the Ouray bridge and end up just before it flows into the Colorado River near Green River, Utah. A plastic tarp is useful for covering the ground before air mattress and sleeping bags are placed down, but it is more imDortant durine a rain storm when river runners don't bring ..... a tent. A wire is hooked to some trees and the tarp is made into a tent to keep the raindrops from falling on the heads of river runners. One item that is refreshing for river runners after a wet day on the river is a cup of hot coffee or other liquids. li-quids. The whole body feels warm once again after a few gulps. Camping out each night next to the Green River in a quiet area makes the river runner feel like an explorer discovering the western United States for the first time. There aren't any houses, businesses, cars, heavy traffic-just a person, his raft and the river. Bad Marks Beckwith of the Los Angeles Dodgers has an earned run average that he would probably wish everyone would ignore and forget about. His earn run average is 108 runs as of August 7. He pitched in one game and lasted only one-third of an inning. He gave up three hits and walked one batter, August 5 in game with the Houston Astros. The Dodgers' Beckwith replaced Ken Howell in the ninth inning and allowed four runs, which were all earned. Powell finished the final two-thirds two-thirds of the inning.
