Economic impact meeting slated The Uintah Basin Association of Governments will sponsor a public meeting to discuss the recent developments in the oil industry in the Uintah Basin. The meeting will be held in the main mall of the Uintah Basin Area. Vocational Voca-tional Center in Roosevelt on Wednesday, Wednes-day, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. Representatives from local banks, oil companies, contractors, Fontenelle developments announced Two major developments in the efforts ef-forts to repair the Fontenelle Dam on the Green River in Wyoming have been announced by the Bureau of Reclamation. Regional Director Clifford Clif-ford Barrett announced Aug. 15 that the Office of Management and Budget has authorized the Bureau of Reclamation to release the Modification Modifica-tion Report on the repair of Fontenelle to Congress. That authority also allows Reclamation to release the report and the Environmental Assessment of the proposed project to the public. Barrett also reported that the contractor con-tractor who has been doing the test work on the dam's repair has been authorized to continue work through the 19!!6 construction season. Distribution of copies of the Modification Report and the Environmental En-vironmental Assessment is being made this week to individuals, entities and organizations having an interest in the project. Bartett added that the contractor for the test section of work done earlier this year will continue installation of the concrete wall in the dam. KECUSOl.. Inc.. of Arlington, Va., was authorized on Aug. 12 to continue work. The $2,104,410 contract to RECOSOL will allow for an additional 60,Q(K) square feet of wall (or about 4T5 linear feet I to be done in what Is called Segment Seg-ment 3, Segment 3 Is adjacent to the left abutment and will allow a continuation con-tinuation of the test section Just completed. T1,e project Involved placing into the burthen d,i tn a rurUiln nf concrete called call-ed a "cutoff wall " This 2 foot thick wall is anchored in the bedrock below the dam and will slnp the seepage that has damaged the dam. The Irvt sections were done at both the c.t-I and west ends of the dam. The rontmuing woik will be to continue from east to west. Funding for the work this fall is now available from the .Safety of Dams legislation. Mackinaw fishing has picked up at nabbed Flaming Gorge Reservoir over the week. past few weeks and fishermen have also been hooking kokanee salmon. "A 38-pound Mackinaw was hooked by Mike Occupinti, July 5 on a pearl flatfish in Linwood Bay. The fishing party also caught a 37 pounder trolling troll-ing deep with a fish finder. There have also been a lot of fish from 15 to 20 pounds hooked in Flaming Gorge Reservoir. To some people a 15 pounder is a big fish," remarked Eric Unck of Lucerne Valley Marina, which is located near Manila. A 36 pound 4 1-2 ounce Mackinaw was nabbed by Elaine Havlicuk of Colorado, June 3. A 32 pound Mackinaw was hooked on a flatfish by Lorraine Driscoll, July 26 in 105 feet of water in Linwood Bay. A 31 pounder was hooked by Helen Lat-tell, Lat-tell, July 6, also, in the Linwood Bay area. Virgil Sharp hooked a 30 pound Mackinaw south of Antelope Flat, August 7 and a 28 pounder was nabbed nabb-ed by Daryl Petersen, August 13 in Linwood Bay. A 29 pounder was caught by Larry Alsop. Ruth Nielson and Brian Twit-chell Twit-chell hooked fish in the Swim Beach area. Nielson had a 28 1-2 pounder on June 29 and Twitchell, who is seven years old, nabbed his fish, a 28 1-4 pounder, June 28. Corey Snyder snared a 27 pound Mackinaw in the Pipeline area, July 11 on a flatfish. Brian Arnold gained a 28 1-4 pounder in Rawlins Draw, June 28. "A 28 pound Mackinaw was hooked in Cart Creek, on Wednesday. There have been a bunch brought in, six one day and four the next. The 28 pounder was caught trolling with a Flatfish. People have also been doing alright with kokanee salmon. It has been good in spots with a few big ones. The Mackinaw have all been hitting pretty pret-ty good," remarked Todd Smith of Cedar Springs Marina, which is near Dutch John. Boaters have been pulling Pop Geer and worms are hooking into kokanees and rainbows. The fish are being hooked between 55 and 90 feet down. Some of the best fishing areas have been north of Pipeline area on the Wyoming side, or south into the canyon ca-nyon area. Beehive Point, Red Canyon Ca-nyon and Sheep Canyon have also been good. Fishermen are hooking Mackinaws. going down 100 to 110 feet with Rapalas, Flatfish and Kwikfish. Mackinaws from 23 to 29 pounds were in Linwood Bay the last Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam has been producing fish for fly fishermen. Hoppers are working work-ing the best up top, which underneath Leech patterns and Double Renegades are still doing a good job. The river consistently produces rainbow and brown trout to up over three pounds. Trollers at Red Fleet Reservoir are still finding rainbow trout on Pop Geer and worms. Bass are being hooked in the north end of Steinaker Reservoir. Walleye and smallmouth bass are hitting jigs at Starvation Reservoir. Fishermen have been taking walleye to four pounds on yellow and black jig heads baited with worms. Smallmouth bass are taking to small chartreuse jigs. Best action seems to be centered down by the bridge in Starvation Reservoir. Fishermen have been nabbing bluegill and bass at Pelican Lake. Worms have been used to hook bluegill and plastic worms and surface sur-face plugs have been good for largemouth bass.
