Show o Uinfcah suffers losses The Uintah Ute varsity baseball team ended their season with 10-3 and 17-2 setbacks to the Cavemen in American Fork Saturday. American Fork won the Region 7 title with an 8-1 mark and Uintah finished with an 0-10 region mark. Uintah posted an overall record of 2-15. American Fork tied for the first place crown last year with Pleasant Grove. Uintah jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first game with one run in the top of the first inning. David Gurr was walked walk-ed and Gary Swim drove in Gurr with Uintah's first run in the ball game. The Utes blanked American Fork in the first and second innings, but four counters in the bottom of the third inning in-ning gave American Fork a 4-1 lead. Mendenhall, Hackford, Knight and Robinson scored for the Cavemen in the third inning. Hackford homered and Knight, Robinson, Sorenson and Merrell singled. Uintah scored one run in the top of the fourth inning on a lead off home run by Kurt Robb, which cut the American Fork lead to two runs at 4-2, but the Cavemen erupted for four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth inning inn-ing for a 9-2 lead. Gurr scored his second run in the game in the sixth inning when he doubled and stomped on home plate a few minutes later. American Fork added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 10-3 win. DeMar Beck went the distance for the Cavemen and he gave up three hits. Glen Murray pitched the entire game for the Uintah Utes. American Fork had ten hits and Uintah committed commit-ted five errors. American Fork's Atkins and Hansen singled and scored in the top of the first inning in the second game to give the Cavemen a 2-0 lead. The Utes scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie up the game at 2-2. Hansen and Swim were walked and scored. Brad Richens singled for the Utes. However, American Fork scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning inn-ing to take a lead of 6-2. The top hits in the inning were a triple by Slater and a homer by Robinson. Slater drove in two runs with his triple. The Cavemen scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to make the final score: American Fork, 17 and Uintah, 2. A single by Robinson drove in two runs. Robb and Murray pitched for the Uintah Utes in the second game and American Fork's Atkins was the winning win-ning pitcher. Uintah had one hit in the game and committed four errors. American Fork had 13 hits. Spanish Fork won the Region 8 title with a 4-1 win over Springville. The Dons posted an 8-1 region mark. Flycast show scheduled Saturday, May 12, Gean Snow will be in Vernal to demonstrate and teach flyfishing techniques. This will be a good chance for those who might be interested in flyfishing to learn the basics; or for more experienced ex-perienced anglers to get in shape for the coming season. Mr. Snow has been showing folks the ease of flycasting for more than 30 years, and as co-owner of Anglers' Inn in Salt Lake City, is well versed in the latest equimcnt and techniques. Assisted by Emmett Heath, Snow will teach tackle selection, knots, basic and advanced casting, and give individual casting help. The event is to be on the south grass lot et Uintah High School Saturday May 12 at 12:30 p.m., and should last abour four hours. Tickets are available now at Sunset Sport Center In Vernal.
