Show Wood named Clipper Carrier of the Month Thirteen-year-old David Wood has been named Clipper Carrier of the Month for March. The Mill creek Junior High 7th grade honor student has been a carrier since September 1989, the first month the Davis County Clipper was delivered by carrier. "The best thing about the job is earning my own spending money," said David, "and the worst is having to deliver in bad weather." When he is not busy with his route, David is involved in sports and school. He enjoys most sports and has played as a guard with the Jr. Jazz Basketball Team for the past four years. David said his basketball hero is John Stockton and his favorite football player is the San Francisco 49er Steve Young. David is saving some of his money to attend college at his favorite school, BYU, and some for a mission for the LDS church. David is an outstanding student. He is a member of the Junior Lfr I y k n ' - m L ' i L y . i4b h - i i . i National Honor Society and is listed on the high honor roll at his school. His favorite subject is math, "It's easy," he said. David is a member of the school's Mathcounts team that will soon compete in the state competition. His goal is to become an accountant. "The Island of the Blue Dolphins" was the last book the avid reader completed. David enjoys en-joys action adventure stories and , , reads about two books each month. David said delivering the Clipper I is sometimes a family affair. His 9- j year-old brother Jeff, is a Clipper J Carrier in the making. He often J helps David with his route. David is I the son of Lance and Pam Wood. I There are four children in the Wood family, the two boys and David's older and a younger sister. A cocker spaniel, Buttons, rounds out the ! household. J David said he really enjoys his work and his advice to other car- I riers is "Do a good job, and get it j on the porch." David said his secret to success is "getting out early." j DAVID WOOD David's customers have never been disappointed, even on snowy days. His route includes east of Orchard Or-chard Drive to 400 East and from 1800 South south to Mill creek Way. Circulation manager Mike Shurtliff said he rarely gets reports of problems from the 80 customers on David's route. "David is one of our very best carriers. He is always on time and the paper is always placed on the porch," said Shurtliff. |
