Show Control decision reversed t WASHINGTON A March 14 decision by the Forest Service, Washington office, reversed an earlier Regional Forester decision to allow aerial control of coyotes on the Dixie National Forest in southern Utah. The decision came after a discretionary Washington office of-fice review of an appeal decision made by the Regional Forester. In February, the Regional Forester determined that the environmental assessment did not meet Forest Service Ser-vice or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) re-. re-. quirements; however, limited aerial control was per mitted to prevent economic losses to local sheep ranchers. ran-chers. The Washington Office decision instruct the Regional Forester to conduct future environmental analyses sufficient to ensure NEPA compliance prior to any decision to pursue coyote control on the Dixie National Forest. The Dixie National Forest is currently working on an environmental analysis of future forest-wide predator control activities. |
