Show Fair will fare well with new buildings By JUDY JENSEN Asst Managing Editor FARMINGTON County Commissioners took action Monday Mon-day to bring the dream of new Davis County fairgrounds buildings one step closer to reality. Forsgren Associates PA was approved ap-proved as the construction management firm for the construction construc-tion of the first permanent buildings for the new fairground site which is adjacent to the new criminal justice complex in Farmington. Project manager Brent Thomas of Forsgren Associates said they plan to begin construction on the buildings as soon as possible. "Our startup date was last week," he said jokingly. The project includes two prefabricated metal buildings. The 10,000 square foot building will be used for exhibits, and the 5,000 square foot building will be used for concessions and public restrooms. "We've already ordered the buildings and we expect to begin construction by late April or late May," said Thomas. He added construction con-struction designs have been completed. com-pleted. R&O Construction will be the contractor on the $250,000 project. In approving a motion to hire Forsgren on a contract not to exceed $1.0,500, Commissioner Gerald Piirdy complimented Commissioner J .'Dell Holbrook on his construction e;qertise. "We have taken advantage of his considerable knowledge in this process pro-cess and it serves the citizens well," 8 aid Purdy. The county has hoped to erect its own fairgrounds buildings for several years and has been in the process of budgeting for the project s ince early 1989. The first phase of the project was the construction of the race track area. The track is used by the Davis County JHorseowners Association for all of their races. Also the County Cutter Racers are using the track for the association's meets. 'Those groups have done a lot of the improvement on a voluntary basis. That has been great help," said Holbrook. "We've been wanting our own fairground all of the time we've been a county and that's a long time," said Holbrook. "I am really happy about this. We didn't get to have a fair last year and we're looking look-ing forward to this year's event," Holbrook said. "This is just the first phase in our wishbook for the eventual Davis j County Fair Park and we're very excited about it," Holbrook said. i i i i |
