Show Students urged to write troops Members of the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps, Operation Desert Shield, APO New York 09848-0006 Rep. James Hansen urged Utah's school teachers to organize letter writing to troops stationed in the Middle East. "What better way to start a new school year than by giving a boost to our troops overseas? The impact letters from the States can have on bolstering morale is immeasurable," im-measurable," Rep. Hansen stated. "These letters will no doubt provide pro-vide a much needed lift to our soldiers and sailors, and help relieve some of the tension and boredom that accompanies their mission in and around the Saudi desert." "It is important th at all Americans, especially our youngest citizens, understand the importance of this operation and the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel in protecting our nation's interests," Rep. Hansen said. "This project will not only serve to let our forces in the region know they are appreciated, it will provide a small, though tangible way for students to participate in, and hopefully develop a better understanding of, this moment in history." While security reasons make it impossible to release the names of individual soldiers on active duty in the gulf region. Rep. Hansen said the Pentagon has given assurances that letters sent to the larger organizations will be distributed to troops in the field. It is also possible .ome of the letters can be answered by military personnel.
